about sizing shoes in store then buying them online... it depends on how you go about it. if you tell the SA right off the bat youre in there just to size and not to buy they may be able to pull out a pair of shoes that has already been tried on more than a few times for you to check out. but, if youre going in there 'stroking' (pretending to be interested to buy when you intend not to), trying on pair after pair of brand new shoes, then yeah, its kind of a dick move

Just by reading this thread I know that not every Alden shoe fits two people with the same shoe size the same and some will not even fit. Some people have even reported that one pair of shoes on the Barrie last fits and another of the same size does not fit.

you obviously dont know the background of this situation, which was handled through PM. im not going to get into it now. and as for the people that reported one pair of shoes on the barrie last fits and another pair of the same size does not fit... i said that. look it up in my history. or do you not research before you go shooting your mouth off? thats my guess.

lots of things contribute to sizing. humidity, material, inconsistencies in material, inconsistencies in production, etc., etc. and thats not even taking into consideration the irregularities of a persons foot nor the difference between left and right foot if any (my left foot is wider than my right). but when sizing questions come up on here its "der, i read the chart and it says this," rather than asking detailed questions and finding someone with the same problem (and then listening to that person). its like the difference between sweeping reform and problem-solving on an individual basis. which is better? thats left up for debate.

and did i ever say shipping was FREE? again, read what i write rather than making terrible inferences as to what you think i mean lol

I agree inasmuch as I think that a captoe on a more "blobby" last just doesn't work that well.

i'm the opposite, I have the cigar LWBs (wearing them today matter of fact) but I ask myself if I dont need/need the whiskey LWB (or ravello too). I do think the cigars are more versatile to wear than whiskey color

I think that'll be the general consensus, that the cigar color is more versatile. I gotta tell you, the whiskey lwb's are beautiful. But you know that!

Final question before I pull the trigger... I wear a size 8 in Clarks DB's and they fit ok. Is that a good comparison in size? Will a size 8 in cordovan number 8 wingtip boots be similar to Clarks DBs in sizing? http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-men..._cordovan.html

With regard to the sole issues I posted several pages back. So Alden instructed me to return them to the merchant (Blackbird) who would then send them in for inspection/repair. Leo at Blackbird has been great to work with but I have a feeling I will be short a core pair of my Aldie inventory for quite some time.... What sense does it make for m to ship these all the way to seattle when i could send these in to Alden myself and cut days off the transit time?

That is just how many manufacturers conduct business; their customers are their retailers, even though you are the end customer. There's a hierarchy, and unfortunately you are at the bottom. I've been in a similar situation, and even though the manufacturer is located in the same city as me, I had to return the product to the retailer and have them sort things out. Hopefully you'll have your shoes sorted out in a timely manner.

I do not think the Clarks is a good shoe to compare from.

Because it's ultimately up to blackbird to determine the source of the defect and how to handle the claim. They need to look at it and make sure it's factory damage and not something you or they created, as they are accountable to Alden as a dealer.

But you do NEED them.
Ravello too.

Actually, I wear my whiskeys way more often than my cigars.
