Alden NYC typically stocks them. I believe they are on the (outdated) website as well

$825.59 (w/o VAT) is a wee bit salty for this Thousandare smile.gif but I sure appreciate the info Kwhite & Rydenfan. I think I'll have to check with Alden NYC. Thanks fellas! Everyone is always helpful on this thread.

There should be an opening for another brand to come in with quality workmanship, classic styling, whatever. Such a brand would get praise here, in magazines, etc. Allen Edmonds, Carmina, etc are ramping up but they aren't making shoes with the styling and breadth of options of Alden yet.

Not too long ago, I never much explored brands other than Alden (also have a few AE Daltons) because to me, Alden has an incomparable breadth of wonderful styles/designs and leathers in boots (which is pretty much all I buy). Now, the desire to acquire boots in grail-type shell led me to explore other brands. As I learned more about my own tastes and preferences, the ability to get in on group MTOs with other brands also became attractive.

I now own C&J boots, all of which I am extremely pleased with.  I'm also waiting on a group MTO of some Carmina boots, albeit not in shell. These options give me some alternatives, which is good.  I still hope to get some Alden ravello or cigar at some point.

Never tried a link so I don't know if this will work but here goes........

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Alden-Arguello-Ranger-Moc-Cordovan-Leather-9-5-UK-11D-US-/251408702919?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

I have been looking for a Ranger for quite some time but was also scared off by the Fran's Boone price. Theses always show up in my EBAY search because of the 9.5 UK size. The US size converts to 11D. If this is your size, these are quite the score.

I saw those actually. I appreciate the heads up but I'm a 12 on the Van Last.

Hi Guys,

Looking for a boot (not chukkas though) in the Barrie last, in 12 C. Can't seem to find any regular retailers who carry the narrower widths.. To I have to wait for a pre-buy? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

after my recent horrible experience with the finish on some C&J for RL McCallums, I think I'll be waiting impatiently on future aldens

glad to hear your experiences have gone well, I guess my 1for1 shot might be an anomaly

Yes, it might be an anomaly although I'm sure C&J is far from perfect.  I'm not sure the exact term to use, whether it's QC or attention to detail, but to me, the C&J's are a touch above Aldens in this regard.  I've seen less crooked stitching, stray threads, etc. on the C&J's than on the Aldens.  Having said that, I agree with many others that Alden's finishing on shell cordovan is just top notch. I only have shell from three brands, Alden, C&J and AE, and Alden is by far the best to me.

Is there a specific boot you're looking for? I have narrow feet (I wear a B width in Barrie last shoes) but I've found that a D width in the same size in a boot actually works pretty well for me. Have you tried on any D width Barrie boots? If you truly need a C and can't wear a D at all, then you might be stuck looking for a pre-order, depending on the model you're looking for.

Leffot had a boot version that looked awesome in store but didn't stock E widths (they will likely do another run soon)... In particular they looked gray with tailored clothing. These seem like they would he an even better choice for spring / summer

I own a pair of the Alden of Carmel snuff suede wingtips, and they are my favorite pair of suede shoes in my collection, and my suede fetish is second only to my cordovan fetish. This is one of the few pairs of flexsoles that I can wear all day, as the uppers are a little more structured than, say, a pair of suede chukkas. Great buy.

I'm certain you were just damn unlucky with those. Definitely crap that those were your first, but you shouldn't let that one experience dissuade you.

Cobbler put 'conditioner' on the new 975s... even after I told him not to twice... they seem fine... looks like its time for a new cobbler!
