Guys-I'm non-Alden today, but I am wearing brandy.  Thought you would like to see some custom cowboy boots.  The tops were originally designed for Roy Rogers.  I changed things up and went with Brandy full quill ostrich.  Cost is about 4 pairs of shell!

See Ya,

Steve

I don't know of any Alden LWBs that are on single leather soles.

I agree that I think the shoe shown in the picture is double leather sole, athough it might be double waterlock.

I believe Leffot's suede LWB are single leather (again, perhaps single waterlock) sole.

A little zooming photo shop magic reveals that it is a double-sole.  "Double-sole" is a bit of a misnomer in that one of them is distinctively thinner on most models.  In other words, they don't generally take two standard soles and literally stack them.  Instead, the outermost one is a standard thickness, and the upper one is about half that.  See this photo of your shoes zoomed in with the layers marked by red lines (click to enlarge):

The uppermost layer is the welt, followed by the first sole, followed by the second sole.

MWS does it again with his seemingly encyclopedic knowledge of shoe construction.  Thank you for another insight.

Serious knowledge, and photoshop skills. Thank you. It would appear that JCrew's description is just wrong. This was my thought until I searched by model #97785 and found the same shoe, except the eyelets, at Alden of NY Mine certainly look like a double sole but without an in person side by side comparison I was in doubt. The JCrew model also looks nearly identical to the LeatherSoul variety, which states a double sole.

On a related note, snuff suede LWB are excellent. Can't wait to break them in.

Mistaken copy/

Thanks in advance,
Michael

I live in Fly-0ver Land which is not solidly in the midst of Snow and Muck Season.  I am lucky enough to have some boots in cxl and cordovan with commando soles.  These shoes do the job in providing traction outside and they look great with business casual.  On a recent nasty day I wore with a suit some color 8 cordovan short wings with commando soles, and they looked great.  In other words, Alden's shoes and boots with commando soles do the job, I find.

I love these boots already. Couldn't help admiring them during our staff meeting this afternoon and was sad to take them off and put them away before I came home. StyFo Alden thread, look what you have wrought!!!!

Only the fine gentlemen of this thread can appreciate how badly I've been waiting for these to arrive. They shipped to my office in the U.S. a few weeks ago. My boss arrived today here in China on one of his somewhat regular visits, having graciously offered to bring me and my family some stuff from home. I ripped open the box, skipped right past the baby food and the other household necessities to get to the green box!

Sadly, he's the practical sort so he had his assistant include the packing slips of everything in case he needed documentation at customs. Thankfully he has said nothing to me about how much my new boots cost! Telling him I got a great deal on them at $505 because of a J. Crew code that finally worked on Alden's didn't promise to be a winning strategy.

nephew,
wear only in good health

These Leffot Naval boots fit into the second category for me
