How good are Alden actually?

I have some coupons that I like to spend, the coupon gives me 15% off some Alden shoes and the webshop discount 20% off to non-EU customers, so I get 35% off some Alden shoes.

Should I buy the Alden - Navy/Tan Suede Blucher for $405?

Asking that question in a thread full of Alden fanatics will result in an overwelmingly biased answer. YES!

However, there are also people who are not fans of Alden and prefer to purchase other brands.

I would say that with the discount available to you, it is a good opportunity to try them out and decide for yourself.

The most frequent complaint is about their inconsistent quality, so if you can tolerate an occasional manufacturing imperfection, I think you will like them. If that kind of thing is unacceptable to you, it may be best to fill your closet with other shoes.

One thing that many people do like about them is their use of Shell Cordovan. Not many shoe companies use it, and even fewer have the experience with it that Alden does.

Come back with Pics if you do end up trying them, and let us know what you think.

I'm not complaining about the final price by any means but does anyone else think it's odd that Amore charges sales tax even if you don't live in New York?

Alden x Leffot #8 Tanker

This is a makeup where the antique sole is really appropriate with color 8

Really? They're not suppose to do that. Do they charge shipping? If so, you're nearly paying what you would with TSM.

It is the new trend. If they turn it in to NY State then it is perfectly OK.

Mine was $42 tax and $18 shipping. I know states are trying to tax Internet and out of state sales. In Missouri, when a business buys something from an out of state supplier, and there is no sales tax imposed, you must declare it and pay a 4% "use tax". When they first imposed this, it was retroactive, going back three years. That check would have covered a few pair of Aldens. Ouch.

I wore Johnston & Murphy for years. When they took most of their models out of the country, I noted a significant decline in quality and switched to Allen Edmonds. In doing some research on the Internet I came across Alden and based off what I read, I decided to try them. I have four pair with another on the way, all shell cordovan.

In my opinion, they are worth it. I plan on getting three or four more, eventually, maybe more. I still wear some of the older, made in US, J&Ms, and the Allen Edmonds I have, but I prefer Aldens. My only issue with them is all the different lasts they use, which makes it difficult as you have to know your size for each last.

Once you try them, you'll have a hard time buying another brand.

The Tan Suede Blucher has a more relaxed look than any other shoes in that category. And I think I like it. Well, I live in a country where we have four seasons, I am not sure if it works to use those shoes in the fall, winter or spring season. Btw, I am a student so I would love to buy shell cordovan shoes, but I can't wear them everyday like you guys. One day, I can do the same as you. So there is no reason to buy pretty expensive shoes I only wear one time pr quarter.

How is the size and the quality of these shoes?

That stinks, $60 for NY state tax and shipping... when I purchased a pair of 975 form Sherman Bros in Philly, they didn't have it in stock so they had Alden ship it directly to my home in TX. No shipping or tax was applied. I may wait for NRO to go 20 or 25% off for my next pair of 9901. Anyone heard anything from them. Labor Day weekend sounds like an NRO holiday sale.

Tan suede unlined PTBs are an excellent choice. I have them and they are one of my favorite pairs. They tend to be on the Barrie last, so size down one half size from your normal shoe size...

For those who have the J Crew color 8 cap toe boot (barrie), does it dress up pretty well, or is it strictly for casual attire.  Looking for my first shell boot and hoping to use casually (chinos, jeans, etc...) and occasionally dress it up some with jacket and tie, maybe a suit.  Thanks in advance...

I had it but later sold it. It's a very nice make up, but I hated the speed hooks and the general bulkiness about the ankle. that being said, I think it works equally well, both casually and jacket and tie. Poss a suit, since it would appear as a cap toe oxford...

I really like mine. Mine are snuff suede. Got them from Unionmade. Great summer shoe as well. They pair well with shorts and no socks. :nodding:
