Current restoration policy only replaces the original soles.

^So yes you can request it, they'll just ignore that request :)

While we're on the topic of plain toes, I'm now aware that we don't see that many pics of plain toed ankle height boots (not including chukkas). I recently dropped the ball on making a play for a pair of cigar plain toed boots being sold by one of our brethren and am beginning to wonder if I will feel the sting of regret even more acutely. Anything to distract myself from the longing for a rare-colored shell wingtip boot, I guess.

Very nice boots and grammar.

You guys and your cigar boots today are just heightening my pains of regret at passing each opportunity to get on the olive patina bandwagon. This is especially the case as I've been wearing boots rather than my lwbs almost exclusively over the last month. Well done! Wear your cigars and everything else in the best of health.

I will try to forget my mistakes on the cigar boot front by medicating myself with the smell and feel of my king unlined dovers as I continue the Mac break in. I'm here at the office until 9:30 tonight, so tobacco chamois boots off, ptbs on! Ah, I feel better now. What boots?! :)

I've looked at a few plain toe color 8 models myself in recent weeks

1) The AF53 is a one of the most classic Alden boots out there. The 9.5E is calling my name.
2) Unipair has a Barrie plain toe color 8 on double leather soles available
3) I'm guessing Leather Soul will get its color 8 pitt boots in sometime next year (I'm on the preorder but I may have already had my fill of color 8 / antique)
4) The classic color 8 chukka is always an option, though thread members tend to like boots more.

EDIT - Looks like someone bought the 9.5E AF53... Happy wearing

I'm feeling the sting as well.  Almost 2 years ago I tried on the cigar cap toe boots at Alden DC, but passed on them.  I was told the Day Tripper pre-order would be filled in about 4 months, so I was holding on to my cash for those.  Had I known the true wait time for the Day Trippers I would have snatched up the cigars as well.

I've heard many people say it, but with rarer shell colors it's purchase now and think later.

I left my #8 4060s in the sunroom in front of a fan to dry after last night's snow, just like Mac suggested. My wife found them there this morning and asked whether she should move them. In that moment of confessing about another neurotic / obsessional shoe care behavior in which I was engaging, I had the sudden fantasy of leaving the boots there for a long while to see if they would patinate into a cigar-like color. Arguably, this process might entail less of a wait than getting a cigar wingtip boot.

Unless of course, anyone has an 8.5D or E they'd like to send my way as a Christmas gift :nodding:

This thought has crossed my mind once or twice as well.  I've seen many pictures of aged cigar and #8 side by side and there is only a small difference in color.  Kathy said they have an 8E in stock with the cigar cap toes (a few weeks ago).  I'm tempted to give them a whirl since my regular grant size is 8.5D.

I have the AF53 (in 9.5D:smarmy:). I'd prefer that they be on the barrie as opposed to trubalance. Nevertheless I find myself grabbing them constantly. It's a great boot all around and definitely gets as much or more wear than my cigar plain toe boot.

Not sure if a 9.5 D is available where you are looking but for me at least 9.5E barrie and 9.5D trubalance fit the same.

I thought about taking the 8E, but I'm a 9D in the Grant. Kathy told me it wasn't worth it and put me on her list for the next batch. You should give it a whirl. If you're on the east coast, there's a chance the boots could be in your hands tomorrow.

Always glad to enable my fellow Alden wearer!

Do you guys have any recommendations for a sturdy, yet not too unattractive-looking boot/shoe scrubber to leave by a front door?

For the sake of thread relevance, the boot scrubber would be used only to keep my Aldens looking spiffy, of course ;)
