Sorry but... what is a "Trubalance last" ?

I found these ones but doesn't have eyelet (I would prefer) and commando sole (but I guess I can make it add by my local cobbler).

I was told they were calling people on the list first.  To some extent thats true, however I'm on the "list" and they had not called me yet.  I've bought at least 8 pair of shell shoes form them this year, so I can't imagine how much you got to spend to rank higher?   I'm sure some sizes may already be spoken for, so I would imagine a call is needed to see whats available?  As far as stock sizes, if they are only getting 20 pairs of each color I can't imagine much choice outside of D width, but who knows?   I don't really like the pre-pay deal but I've not had a shot at any Rare color LWB this year until now...so I pulled the trigger.  It's a 4-6 month wait but the order is confirmed.  The fact that orders for cigar and whiskey should stir up the pot for those who have been waiting a long time, specially Ravello boots!  The thing that's unknown, is how long ago was this order placed?  It's just been confirmed but likely has been placed a while back.

To be honest...there's nothing about this that makes sense...I think it's a shell game!

See Ya,

Steve

Shell in a snuff pic.

Good delivery today. With all the concerns about J Crew barrie boot sizing, my usual 9.5 barrie size worked fine with thin socks. I have the 10 as well, and it wasn't bad, but maybe just a little too much width which can lead to pinky toe torture with shell creasing.

The last is the foot mold they create the shoe around during production. It determines the shape of the shoe. Most of Alden's captoe boots are on the Grant last, which generally fits pretty true to your normal "Brannock" size (what you're measured as on the scale they use in a shoe store). The Trubalance last is a much wider shape generally reserved for the Indy boots. With the Trubalance last, the usual recommendation is to go down half a size or half a width (whichever is more practical) to balance out the increased width -- so like a 9.5E or 10D instead of a 10E.

Spent some time this weekend in the shoe department at Bergdorf Goodman. Well, John Lobb is John Lobb but otherwise was absolutely shocked at what they're getting. Prada, Ferragamo, Thom Browne, Christian Laboutin . . . . . Seriously???? $1400 for Tom Ford??? $600 for Lanvin sneakers?? . . . . Ridiculous. Frankly, this Alden sickness is a freakin' bargain. (My apologies to any fans of those brands . . . . not that there are likely to be many here.)

^ I had been eyeballing the single monks, so when Epaulet put them on sale I hopped on both the snuff and brown calf. Between Epaulet and Leather Soul's sales, I need a time out.

Thank you very much NED for this.

Last question, does cordovan leather strech?
When I tried them it was a perfect fit on my left foot but I felt really tight in the right one. Can figure if I should go half size larger or try to break them.

Hear, hear. I am not saying Pradas were ever great shoes, but there was a time when they at least produced a marginally well assembled attractive shoe (that is to say they outsourced to a manufacturer who did this under their design specs). Now they are some of the most g-d awful hideous abominations I have ever laid eyes on. buying those is like paying good money to be beaten senseless.

Tom Ford, last I saw, has some quality stuff but you can buy the same maker (Verre, I think) for much less. Some of it is just too darned pointy though. I digress - your point is well made.

Yes...Haberdash and Need Supply didn't help the wallet either. Interesting, a suede shoe I ordered from Haberdash sold out before they pulled it online, but they were able to place an immediate reorder with Alden and will have it later this week. If only shell reorders were that easy.

Seven,

I am not sure if you have tried already, but I just picked up a pair of Whiskey LHSes from Citi Shoes in New York. Give them a call. (E-mail never seems to work too well with them). Have a good one!

That whiskey / cigar pre-order seems tempting.... but I would really LOVE a whiskey or cigar wingtip boot pre-order!!!

Will these ever be made again?!?

I would love to buy a pair if they are available...

Got my natural cxl PTB from haberdash this afternoon....anyone else find them to be exceptionally roomy? They are an 11 and may be sent back for a 10.5 if anyone is interested....they were 1/3 off.

Cordovan generally doesn't give that much. If it's tight now, it probably won't get much looser, if at all.
