You should be able to get one for ~$5 at the drug store.  It looks like a nail brush, but with slightly softer bristles.

Hey gents. I just received a nice delivery to my office - Color 8 Leffot Dover. These have to be some of the most (if not the most) comfortable shoes out of the box that I've owned. I'll break them in and wear them soon. One quick question: I assume the small hue on the right shoe (as shown in the picture) shouldn't be a concern? I think it's fine, but I would like your thoughts on this. emuryby7.jpgute8e4u9.jpg9u4eruna.jpgmy3ehuhy.jpg

MrClemson - your shoes look great. Don't have any concern about the hue on the right shoe, I didn't notice it.

Congrats, those look great.

They're going to get some marks, maybe one or two now but especially later after wearing - makes em look even better.

rub the tiniest dab of no 8 polish on that and it might darken it back up

agreed, quite the score...and once the creases set in, the spot will definitely be nearly unnoticeable!

Probably also some of the shinyest shoes out of the box!

I think it could be that the part of the leather you are referring to was bent a little bit before it was made in to a shoe.  Looks like how Color 8 lightens in the creases.  If that is the case, brushing will fix it.

Any feedback? how puddle-resistant are alden cordovan/calfskin chukkas, particularly with a comamndo sole? :P

I emailed 14ozBerlin.com about their Shell Cordovan stock and they sent me this lovely photo. Unfortunately, they don't ship outside of the EU. It does look like they might have a PTB in Cigar though.

Thank you for this. Truly above and beyond.

I don't expect you to go back and comment which have 270 vs. 360 degree welt, but I'd still love to see a comparison if anyone has one. Is visual appearance the only difference, or does it affect structural integrity or resoleability at all?

Thanks guys! I appreciate the feedback.

Even in the last picture with the close up I had to strain to see to what you were referring.

That looks much less pronounced than the creases you will have in the shoe by lunchtime.  Those shoes look great to me.    I hope you like wearing them.

Easy - all of them have flat, 360 welts

Welts are not my area of expertise, but I think this is right:

There are three kind of Alden welts on Goodyear lasted models

Flat, 360 welt
Reverse stitch or "storm welt", 360 degree
Reverse stitch or "storm welt", 270 degree

The 270 degree version connects to the sole around the heel ("close heel"). This is a good example:

Where a 360 degree version looks like this

Google any of the captoes for pics of a flat welt

From what I have read, there is no real functional difference between any of them; they are all aesthetic ("storm welts" were originally designed to better keep out water/moisture, but I doubt the Alden storm welts retain this function) and have no impact on durability/resolability

^ Hrmm, isn't the JCrew boot 270? Not sure about a few of the others, though most are indeed 360.

Hmm. Looking at these photos, you may be right, and there may be a fourth category that I didn't recognize existed - a flat, 270 degree welt

Yes, my Alden/J. Crew #8 PCT boots are flat-270 (close heel) welted.
