I don't doubt that its barely noticeable, but the whole idea of that shoe with that sole is beyond me.  Like putting mud tires on a Rolls-Royce.  Just my opinion, others may vehemently disagree.

I associate Rolls-Royce more with JL... Maybe Alden with Cadillac? Since the shoe in question is a blucher brogue wingtip, I think it is acceptable. If the commando sole was on a a cap toe bal on the Plaza on the other hand, then I would say it might not work with the aesthetics.

Deal Alert -- Cigars at AoC in Irregulars link:

AF81, cigar shell cordovan wing tip, Barrie last. 10 1/2 E ($425)(worn twice)

If they were my size they'd be gone. JT

Just wanted to say I used the mac method on a pair of cigar ptbs and it really works. Will continue. Amazing how no products are used.

There are a lot of cordovan models that seem to work well with commando soles... If you can wear business casual (khakis, occasional wool pants, etc), you can defintiely pull off commando soled cordovan shoes. The various AOC models, Leffot's ravello PTB on commando, the grant lasted Cigar captoe on commando all seem to "work."

Crepe is another issue - the only crepe soled cordovan models that seem to work are cigar PTBs (which have been offered by Winn Perry, Unionmade and now Frans Boone). I don't understand why crepe and cigar seems to work OK, but it does. Other crepe cordovan models (such as AoC's ravello longwing on crepe and even some of the Leather Soul boots) seem off.

more evidence that AoC accepts returns from some customers and not from others?

Are these (the color 8 captoes above) the J. Gilbert on the plaza last? They seem to have some black shading in the photo.........very nice!

Hey gents,

I'm an avid Barrie last guy with the hopes of transitioning into a Plaza last shoe... I'm normally a 10.5D and have done a little research and found that I may have to size up to 11D in the Plaza, is this the norm for most? I hope I can pull off Plaza, seems narrow as hell.

Puzzling indeed... Atleast he has the decency to offer them as irregulars and not sell them as new/first quality. I hate when I pay full price for shoes and they arrive substantially creased, especially because I crease shoes very little with my feet and gait, so its not like they would look the same after a few wears.

How much pressure do you use when running a horsehair brush on the leather? Are they very light strokes or scrubbing hard? Does it take several wearings/brushings to get the mac shine? I dunno if any of you guys have experienced this, but I may have horsehair brushed a little too hard. I was getting slight scratch/dotted marks from the hair bristles that aren't buffing out :(

I've been wondering the same thing (about how hard to brush).
