A little more Cigar... Decided to start the break-in process on my new Cigar LWBs. The Shell Cordovan is just absolutely exquisite on these shoes.

Warning: More Cigar LWBs! (Click to show)

Quick question/ poll for all you Alden fanatics:  For a first Ravello shoe, which is better, Chukka or LHS?

PS- I already have a Whiskey LHS, so I am torn whether to complement that shoe or branch out.

Thanks. Cheers.

for me, it would be a chukka.. But I'll say I much prefer the older shade of ravello, and an antique sole over a dark sole.

A black longwing is in my future.

The J Crew cadet has gotten poor reviews, but the photo posted above changed my mind. It is just a shoe version of a Barrie captoe boot and goes great with more casual options.

Ammo in favor of black shell for sure. Do you own any black shell boots?

I am with you on both the old Ravello and the medium antique edge trim. It is just a stunning combination.

Chukka hands down, even if you didn't have the LHS.

You guys have a lot of love for the chukka boot! I appreciate your recommendations. Perhaps I am not as intimately familiar with the old Ravello as you fellows are. How does the old Ravello differ from what Horween currently produces?  Thanks in advance. Cheers.

my definition of old ravello is in the middle. new ravello flanking each side

It's interesting to see that my patina'd tankers look more Ravello than Whiskey now.

ptbs look great!

Thanks for chiming in and providing this picture, which confuses me a little.

My issue with Ravello, and why I would not consider myself fully on the bandwagon as an admirer or this shell color, is it seems to be the least consistent shade of shell. Ravello should be a medium brown, but I have seen new shoes where it is indistinguishable from the old mahogany color, yet others where it is oddly close to whiskey, and now this picture above where it looks strangely reddish like a mix of color #4 and Ravello. What gives?  I realize the boots in the photo above are old and seem to have patina, but are they really Ravello? And, yes, I realize lighting conditions can affect the way shoes may look in a photo.

Furthermore, I recognize the shell itself may react to and take dye differently , which is part of the charm, and the colors are not totally static over time. But I am almost more inclined to get shoes in natural shell instead of Ravello, and just let them darken over time.

A ravello chukka or PTB would complement your whiskey LHS nicely IMO.
