Eric, as per your request. The NSTs are old Ravello, the LWBs are new Ravello. The Strands (medallion cap toe) is Walnut Shell.

They should get lighter with age, correct? Pardon the question but I'm considering purchasing my first shell Alden and debating between the Ravello LWB or the #8 with Antique Sole. Right now I have a pair of Alden Shortwings in calf that are already a dark burgundy.

They are on the aberdeen last.  A barrie lasted (semi-casual) monk intrigues me also.  I ordered an AE Norwich in Brown shell during the Rediscover America Sale hoping to score a similar shoe.  AE's 1 last usually works well for me, but for some reason it was too narrow in the forefoot region, but the tightest buckle setting was really loose (too wide).  The shell was also terrible in appearance.  The calf version I tried in store looked and felt pretty good.  I ended up returning them.  I've never tried the Alden monk.

Would you go, for casual/bizcaz:

1. Nat CXL Longwing (double waterlock sole)
2. Nat CXL captoe boot
3. Greenwich Navy CXL shortwing boot

I know the color 8 LWB is always out there, but the black edging seems a littttle more formal than I'm looking for.

I say LWB, but I have a serious bias.

Lighter old stock ravello^^^^

^^^Newest ravello (very dark), two year old ravello (reddish)^^^

Not sure why they are darker.  I think I like the old, lighter color best, but I am pleased with all of my ravello.

Thank you guys. I agree with the sentiment. Alden boots are very special and most of my collection is made up of boots (mix of Trubalance and Barrie) at this point. Setting aside the usual benefits of look, comfort and support, Alden boots obviate any issues around the Barrie last heel fit for me. I am in the group of folks with a really wide forefoot and skinny heels and ankles.

I love how Leffot publishes pre-orders to their website and allows any and all folks to jump in. Takes the private-club aspect of buying Alden out of the equation.

Why should it be a private club?

I think he means that other shops it is word of mouth on new pre-orders or you have to be on a list

They are not particularly hard to come by I don't think. A couple retailers have them at the moment. J Gilbert, Alden NYC and SanFran I believe. My experience with Trubalance is to size 1/2 down. They fit me nicely. I don't think you'll have much luck getting a discount.

I saw this on eBay earlier, 10.5 Alden Ravello LHS (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380770809295&ssPageName=ADME:X:PROI:US:3160) and thought of some guys here.

This is not my listing/item, but I thought I would share the tip in light of discussion on "rare" shell.  Cheers.

Anyone know why some sizes would be 'sold out' if it's a pre-order?

Ryden, Since your Ravello doesn't match, I think you should sell the LWB to me. I think it would make your collection look more cohesive...LOL

I believe they only order a certain amount in each size. If I am not mistaken. I would try to call and see if you can get in.
