Love the boots(?). I've been looking at picking up a pair myself, but I keep talking myself out of boots because it's "cool" enough for boots in Texas for maybe 2 months a year. Is it blasphemous to buy CXL Indy shoes rather than boots?

I think I agree with this. I have thick socks and thin socks. My feet are hotter when I wear thick socks with shoes than when I wear thin socks with boots. I have a feeling it may be more sock related than boot related. Maybe... I'll let you know when I try to wear my shell Adlen boots this summer.

Cape Cod Horse-Bit Loafers. My sole calf pair of Alden's.

Anyone know where Bryan Yamashita of LSBH is now working? He is no longer with the LS organization. He was always a pleasure to deal with.

Good question - I'll ask him and get back to you.  I do have his personal contact info, but haven't spoken in some time...

Even if it is OK to wear cordovan boots in the summer, there are much better options for walking in 90+ degree heat, humidity and concrete. Suede shoes, LHS and tassel loafers in any material, non-Alden mocs (Yuketen, Quoddy, etc), bit loafers, etc all are more appropriate. Good cordovan options include unlined PTBs and flex soled shoes like the Leffot saddle shoes.

. Here, here. To each his own but although I'd wear boots all the time if I could, I am not doing that in the summer in NYC. I sweat just thinking about it.

Chalk me up as another who will wear boots of all different materials all year long.

Shell boots in 90º weather? Sure - as long as it matches the rest of my outfit.
Unlined sued chukkas in the dead of winter at 20º below? Absolutely - as long as it matches the rest of my outfit and there isn't 6" of salty slush everywhere.

However, if you wear boots with short...you'll end up looking like this fella...

Isn't it winter 9 months a year in Michigan regardless?

I live in TX and I wear boots pretty much year-round.  A lot depends on how much you're out and about.  When you're inside in A/C most of the day, it doesn't really matter.  Having said that, I do wear more suede and chukkas in the middle of the summer here.
