That is a good question!

Black = Perf Cap Toe
8 = LHS
Cigar = Thor Boot
Ravello = LHS
Whiskey = Chukka

However I'd also insist on LHS in Cigar and Black in addition.

Can you remind me what the Thor boot is? The ones I know are:

Day Tripper = cap toe blucher boot
Tanker = NST boot
Jumper = perf cap toe blucher boot

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of those.

What are you waiting for? :D

I take a long time to make decisions in general. Also, since I would like to have a relatively small collection, I would prefer not to double up on a particular style. So, I sit around and think about questions such as these -- or equivalents, such as "I want 2 #8, 1 cigar, and 1 ravello, and 1 each of LWB, NST, PTB, and LHS: pick which color for each" -- rather than just, for each new acquisition, picking my favorite style at the moment and pulling the trigger.

Black - Shortwings
Color 8 - Longwing
Cigar - Tough choice (longwing, captoe, Indy, a lot of choices here)
Ravello - Captoe boot (hunting, day tripper)
Whiskey - Chukka
Color 4 - Balmoral wingtips

try not to overthink it....once you get your first shell, you will want another, then another, then another. Before you know it you will have broken all your rules against doubling up and you will not be disappointed :slayer:

Then you must have the shortwing balmoral. This model is one of very few made on the Tremont. For the Tremont, some size down 1/2 size from their usual size and some don't. So it is possible you may need a 9.5. Good luck with the 10D.

Yep, I think they are model #9741. It's tough in St. Louis because nobody carries much stock. The 10.5 is not horribly big, so I think the 10 will be fine. My cap toes are 10s, I think those are the Aberdeen, maybe Hampton last. All new to me, but I love the shoes and will be looking to expand once I get the basic black wingtip straightened out. Thanks for the help.

Good to see someone in my home town wearing Aldens. The only pair I knew for sure that had been in STL were on my feet :)

^ what an awesome makeup! The Day Tripper is a cap toe boot made exclusively by Leffot, and I'm pretty sure it was only made in Ravello. So if there's something similar in a different color, than I doubt anyone would refer to it as a Day Tripper boot. That is, unless Leffot decides to release the same makeup in a different color, similar to what Epaulet has done quite successfully with their lineup of Brixton boots.

I can relate to that. So........I have, all shell:

Black wingtip balmoral
Black cap toe
#8 cap toe
Black on black saddle, which is my casual, with sport coat, or evening casual shoe.

What should I look for next?

I wear a suit almost every day, sport coat once every week or two. I also have:
AE black wingtip, non perforated balmoral
AE black perforated cap toe blucher
AE burgundy perforated cap toe blucher
J&M black cap toe balmoral
J&M brown cap toe balmoral
J&M burgundy wingtip balmoral

As you may see, I have moved from Johnston & Murphy, to Allen Edmands, to Alden. My next Alden should be what? I'd like it to be shell cordovan, would like a tan or walnut, probably a balmoral as I have learned that bluchers are not OK with a suit. Any ideas?

^ looks like you're pretty set with black, brown, and #8/burgundy for now, definitely try one of the exotic shell colors for your next purchase. And if you're looking for a balmoral, try something like the whiskey shell cap toe that Roguls mentioned a few posts earlier. See it here, it's pretty awesome. Also, you don't always have to follow that rule that you need to wear bals with a suit, bluchers look just fine most of the time IMO.
