I bought them and then returned them. I found the color too orange.

So do you think the 9D will work for me? I'm worried about the length and heal slipping. Since theyre boots, would wearing thicker socks and tightening the laces help? The only other boots I have are chukka boots and those don't lace all the way to the ankles, so I was wondering if the lacing of these boots would help. Since I'm pushing it a little with the width as well, will that help in stabilizing the fit?

I'm just kicking myself for snoozing on making the purchase a couple days ago when 8.5's weren't sold out. Can someone with alden/allen edmonds shoe experience help me out with my first alden and first boot purchase? These are the most beautiful shoes I've ever seen and wish I could make it work.

Anyone? I did some searching on the forums about the barrie last compared to allen edmonds, but most of the comparisons were with the #1 last. Can anyone give me some sizing help with the barries when compared to AE's #5? There doesn't seem to be a real consensus. I wish I could try them on but the stores don't carry them.

Awesome looking boots. I would be very tempted if they were my size.

Speaking of Alden SF...I was there this weekend and saw 2 notables.  They still have whiskey PTB in limited sizes.  Also saw a green suede PTB.  The color is called Hunter Green.  It's very dark.  I almost thought it was black in the display.  Very rich color which I would have loved to get.  But it only comes in D though so it was good news for my wallet.

Another plug for the service of Jim and team.  Reason I went in was to have my suede chukka inspected.  I bought it last March and thought the right was wider.  I couldn't prove it because the soles were the same.  The uppers were probably not pulled tightly during production.  Fast forward 4 weeks ago, I peaked inside after putting on trees.  The right tree indeed was spread wider.  So I contacted Jim, sent him pictures and he said bring it in for inspection.  I thought he was going to offer to repair or something considering it's pretty worn.  To my amazement, he replaced it with a brand new pair!!!  I'm taking all my friends to Alden SF. :fonz:

Is it a similar "orange" to the 405 Indy?  Thanks for the response.

On a separate question for Alden folks.  I don't own any Aldens in the barrie last, but I understand that everyone says to order a 1/2 size down from your normal size.  I found some brixton wingtip boots that I really like, but they only have my normal size.  Do you think these (1/2/ difference but same D width) will be too big to tolerate (even with winter socks and perhaps an insole)?  I ask to avoid having to purchase and then return.

Sent PM - my size.

I see there aren't many sizes left, but the J. Crew #8 LWBs definitely come with a black welt. I ordered a pair several coupon codes ago and returned them after speaking with several SAs about them. They were nice enough to comb through what they had, and all of them had the black welt. That being said, if you want a beefy pair of oxfords, these are the shoes for you.

I can't say on similarity to 405s. I have only had the jcrew version indy which is the darker brown one. At least if you do buy them you know a return would be easy with jcrew .

I am 9.5D in other brands and in the Barrie last but I suspect I might be in between a 9.5D and 10.0D.  In Aberdeen and Plaza, I go with a 10.0D due to the narow last.

I suspect I would go 9.0D in a Truebalance but haven't tried that last yet...

Didn't apply in my case. I had been checking for the color 8 LWB's for quite some time. I just happened to check the website last week and the website indicated that they were available. No BO was necessary.
