At 9.5E I am at the border between medium and large. I use large in most shoes except for unlined shoes, where I go with medium. When ordering shoes with trees I have been given both medium and large. Medium trees do work for my aberdeen loafers (10E).

Especially since there is no one I know who would understand me dropping $700 for a pair of shoes.

Related to some other comments on the subject, I think those big boxy square-toed shoes are hideous but some people love them. What I don't get is when I see a senior-level executive with a nice suit on and $75 shoes. I've never seen someone look well-dressed with crappy shoes. And it is amazing to me when I'm in a meeting with a bunch of suits and the majority of them have crappy, uncared for shoes. As a teenager someone once told me that the first thing a women looks at is a mans shoes. I didn't know if it was true but I liked girls and didn't want to leave anything to chance. Even when I couldn't afford $700 shoes I always paid attention to them. I don't understand anyone who fashions himself as well-dressed not doing the same.

I have a standing order with the retailers who I deal with to always include trees. So far I have always received medium sized trees. I think either would work.

Tan suede, unlined PTB

RTP, you suede monster you. Both have nice combos cooking. I particularly like them with light blue anything. Outstanding sir.

Any other 8D indy boot owners around?
I realise that 8D is right on the divide of small and Medium - I guess the concern is stretching vs not enough tension.

I use the Combination chart from the Woodlore site:

I'm 8D as well and use the small size.

If anyone cares or remembers:

Just a small update on my 975s. They are i the worst shape of any Aldens that I have ever seen (it appears that not many people post their Aldens when they are absolutely beat to hell)

They were sent to restoration about a week ago and they were returned today. Perhaps I will try B Nelson.

Returned un-restored?  Any explanation?

I apologize. Returned unrestored due to the condition. Bakes11771 posted the pic, the uppers are in great condition compared to the sole.

curious if I can get some feedback on these beaters I have here. I've stripped a ton of color off them with renomat, but it still has a caked on appearance near the creases (the haziness on the toecap is from recently applied reno that hasnt been polished)

thoughts? keep reno'ing until no more color appears on a rag?

And second, because when they find out how much they cost, they all think I'm nuts.

I agree! However...I've been working on a AE/Alden apprentice of sorts. He finally gets it. His Cole Haans have rubber soles and he said to me...."so these are basically like athletic shoes with a dressy upper...and you can't get athletic shoes resoled!" Ahhh...from the mouths of babes lol

People at my work already know I'm nuts...but if they knew more about the Alden items I have a feeling their jaw would drop.

^ I have a pair that had/has bloom in the creases which I've never been able to fully brush out. I applied multiple coats of Reno, but the whiteness returns as soon as they're worn. I thought it was excess polish, but once I started getting color to come off on the rag it kept coming. Eventually, I figured any polish there had been was now long gone and I was lifting Alden's dye or the color was coming out of the shell itself. I'm not sure if more Reno-ing would eventually fix it, but I've just been willing to live with the white creasing.

Thanks BeSpiff.  They're older pics I reposted to help answer a question about Alden suede make-ups.  The Suede LWB maybe my most comfortable Alden.  I may passively look for the tan suede version, though my funds are somewhat depleted after the ravello PTB.
