Very nice. I have vintage Hanover LB Sheppard #4 PTB's and the color is splendid. Definitely more of a reddish tint as compared to Ravello.

Thank you.

nephew,
looking good in #4

Thank you.

Daaammn. The elusive #4. Looks sweet!

Thanks. It's still the unicorn of the Alden shell world. Looking forward to seeing pics of the TSM #4 captoe boot when it drops.

agreed #4 is gorgeous

Thank you.

Is it just me or do chukkas look better in suede than shell/leather?

I can't seem to get used to the idea of a chukka in shell.

It seems that you either love or hate the shell chukka. The barrie lasted cordovan chukka catches some serious criticism on this thread, but some retailers have said that the cordovan chukkas are among their best selling styles. I personally love Alden's chukkas in all materials - I have two in cordovan (whiskey and cigar), one in chromexcel and one in suede. Chukkas can look very clean (similar to PTBs under pants) but are also easy wearing and comfortable.

Couldn't help but to notice this new boot from ShoeMart. Nice makeup:

Definitely tempting. I like the all eyelet look.

I like those. They would be on my short list if I did noit already have a snuff suede boot from The Shoe Mart.

Stopped by Alden SF yesterday - for those of you that are interested they have Indys, Tassels and Belts all in Cigar as well as unlined PTBs in Color 8 and Black Shell.

If you can swing it, I recommend the tassels. Alden's tassels are iconic, but I don't feel that they get enough love on this thread. Mac has some great tassels, my ravello taseels are one of my best Aldens, and some of the broken in color 8 tassels I have seen on this thread look outstanding

Thanks for the heads-up.

I am buying Alden shell for the first time - decided to go with PTBs - and have purchased a cigar PTB in 8 C/E and a Ravello PTB in 8.5 B/D. Both are in Barrie.

The 8 C/E fits a little better than the 8.5 B/D.

Questions for the experts:

Will the shoe stretch? I am worried that the 8.5 B/D, which feel just a tiny loose (not enough to matter presently), may get even looser so to speak.

How does the Ravello color compare to the #6 shell cordovan, as I am due to get a #6 Rider shoe shortly. If the color is the same as Ravello, one of these may have to go.

I'm also torn between the Cigar and the Ravello from a color perspective, but that's not a question as there's already plenty of discussions on SF on the subject. :D

Many thanks!

Color 6 will typically fall between cigar and ravello on the spectrum. To that end, if your goal is to acquire two shoes most far apart on the spectrum, go with the ravello and cigar and return the Color 6. This link will give you a sense of the colors:

I have Barrie lasted shells in 9B/D and 9.5A/C and each size fits well. In my experience, shell stretches very little, but will conform to your foot over time. The "issue" you have described sounds like an issue I personally wouldn't worry about, particularly given the overall rare availability of the models in question.

The debate of ravello v. cigar in terms of preference, as you allude to, is totally personal.

Thanks sevenfoldtieguy, much appreciated.

Are the Ravello and cigar that hard to find? Did not realize that., maybe I lucked out. Now I have another reason to think over whether I want to return either.
