Lookin' good man!  Thought for a second those were cigar gunboats, which is what I am wearing today.  Was about to say great minds thinking alike; still works I suppose...  ;)

I couldn't disagree more...  Black shell is certainly worth the purchase.  Not sure there are many here who have posted otherwise.  Maybe they're the silent majority??

Not only do I own zero pairs of black shell shoes, I own zero pairs of black shoes period. I don't know why, I just never seem to like them. I've bought a couple pairs of black captoes in the past with the thought that "every man needs a pair of black captoes" - can't even count the number of times I've read that - and I always end up returning them or selling them. I thought it would be a good idea to keep a pair just incase I need them, but that essentially means they will never get worn. I'd rather keep my closet stocked with shoes I actually wear, rather than things I might wear if the proper opportunity presented itself. Maybe one day I'll change my mind, but right now I pretty much always grab something brown or burgundy based.

In my twenties, almost every shoe I bought was black and Italian. Now almost every shoe I buy is some shade of brown and U.S. or English. Wish I had some deep point to make other than the obvious - we all have our tastes and our tastes certainly do change.

My friend, I think your argument and preference is significantly different than "black shell is just meh..."  For those who do actually wear black shoes, black shell is worth one's time.  For those who choose not to wear black shoes in general, I wouldn't recommend it.

I really love Alden's snuff suede.  Would love to acquire a snuff boot, but my most recent purchase (and my wife) may prevent that from happening.  :eh:

Wear often and in great health my friend!

Black suits are of course great with charcoal suits or wool pants, which many of us have to wear for work. I'm wearing a charcoal suit, blue thin striped shirt, navy knit tie with a black belt and black cordovan NSTs now.

When it comes to more casual wear, my general rule on black is whenever I wear any black item or black in it, black shoes work well...

Black cable knit sweater? Black NSTs shoes
Black pea coat or other wool coat over a shirt and navy jeans? Black tankers will work.
Herringbone pants in grey and white? Brown shoes will work, but so will a black belt and black captoe boots.
Black polo shirt with white shorts in summer? Maybe black LHS sockless.

Agree with RTP.  If you are going to get a black shoe, black shell is an excellent choice.  If you can't see yourself wearing a black shoe, don't bother.

Is there a way to slightly darken the right shoe to get it to match the other?  - Thanks

There are things that can be done to make it darker, but it still won't match.  It will just be darker than before, but still a different shade.

Thanks Aldenfan for the discount code. I just bought a pair.

Gentlemen, excellent postings today. Those Color 8 LWBs of sazon's look amazing, as do 100yr's snuff suede, tifosi & mdubs' Whiskey Wednesday and those very comfy looking snuff suede LHS that DonL is wearing today.

I received a couple of packages today, which is always exciting but sometimes stressful.

First, the good: J Crew PCT boots fit great and are a rich, dark version of color 8 that sends my swooning every time I look at them. Also, I haven't done any deep knees bend in them or anything like that, but they do seem to fit slightly more snug than my Leffot black shell Naval Boots. bigstar[1].gif

Now for the not so good: received a pair of LS snuff suede Safari boots and am totally non-plused. When I look down at them on my feet, it just seems so wide through the foot (because the suede has so much give) culminating in a very narrow-looking toe area. It's accentuated by the regular flat welt of the sole which is hardly visible (like it is on a reverse welt boot), so it's just that chisled narrow toe box staring up at me. I can totally see people liking this look, but I guess I'm used to more rounded toes on suede shoes -- suede bucks, Van last LHS, or suede chukkas on the Barrie last.

Have I simply gotten (temporarily) too used to looking at my color 8 Trubalance Indy-clad feet - and it was too much of an aesthetic shock to suddenly throw on a pair of suede boots with a narrow little Plaza last chisled toes? Thoughts?cloud.gif

Awesome looking new suede NSTs dropped at LS by the looks of their Instagram feed. Considering the navy ones...

Cigar LWBs today.  The pic doesn't look great, but they could use some Mac love...
