I am wondering what you do when a model of boots has speed hooks instead of eyelets? I really like the alden for J crew cap toe boot, but I don't really like speed hooks. Replacing them from, say, B. Nelson, is expensive ,and also just doesn't look as good. So, do you just live with them? Learn to love them? Or wait until a make up comes around that has everything you totally love? I don't seem Alden changing this make up for J.Crew any time

Depends how fervent your hate of speedhooks is.  If you like the boot and can learn to live with it, I say do that.  You rarely can know what make-ups or coming and, even if you do, you don't know when they are coming.

If you really hate speedhooks, however, you should not buy them and wait for what you really want.

I agree. Wore these today. They're like slippers--perhaps THE most comfortable LHS:

FTFY. Brixton's aren't even confirmed for production yet are they? 2 years + now.

BUT I live here in the NW and it rains like crazy (is right now), and have been very hesitant to wear them out of moderate fear that ill ruin them right out of the gate. Stupid, I know, but I'm used to work boots that are built to take a beating (Whites, Wesco, RWs). Any advice/pointers from fellow Cascadians (PDX/SEA/Vancouver)?

At least get an initial layer of paste wax on them to help with the rain, or try the leather defender if you can get it. I put a topy on my pair after a month or so, mainly for traction. I wear Alden suede and shell a lot in Seattle rain.

Now that said, today was pretty wet and an ultimate indy day for me. Commando sole is great!

I thought these photos from Leffot's tumblr were pretty cool - this is the alpine grain longwing on crepe (basically all weather walker). I've debated this shoe for years, but this wearer appears to have shined his up pretty good, which really improves the look:

Yeah, I invited this response. Seriously tho, should I treat them with any weather dressing or just follow the standard rules of regular wear followed by the post-wear treatment (trees, cloth cleaning, heaving brushing)?

Dawg fans should not worry about these things. biggrin.gif

The first time I wore my #8 Indys was a rainy day walking around downtown and the market. They survived.

I've got some Defender but I've yet to use it. I keep forgetting.

For those of you size 9'ers, there's a new pair of Leffot #8 tankers on eBay. Buy It Now for $1,249.99 (+25 shipping). Seller willing to accept offers though. If the seller is a member here, I wish you nothing but the best. If these sell at anywhere near that price, I'm going into liquidation mode.
