Does anyone have experience with Alden's monk-strap George chukka (secure fit, strap quality, etc.)? Most plaza boots seem to quickly disappear, but the tan leather version at Leffot has been around awhile...and looks very nice.

I just couldn't pass up a deal from a local member on these! Great guy and I got myself some great boots!  Only worn a couple times and barely creased. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I got them back yesterday from the restoration and im very happy with the results. the #8 shell bounced back like new. the textured leather pair is much better than before and feel like new. I did not expect the leather pair to return so dark, but I really like the way they look on. The folks at alden even printed the model #s on the green boxes for the return, I thought that was a nice detail.
I asked around, no one seems to know much about the leather nsts. I think nsts are expensive to make, maybe they only do it for shell now.

Very worthwhile endeavor. Great results. I have several pairs of vintage shoes as well (Keith Highlander, Nettleton, Edwin Clapp, Florsheim) but no Aldens. Funny, but you don't see them very often. Congrats - thanks for sharing.

Speechless...  I think it's time to try a restoration project.  Very well done my friend!

I tried on pair at Leffot this summer and thought they were fabulous.  Couldn't get myself to pay $500 for calf when I knew of a few shells on my radar.  The whiskey George boot from a while back (LS??) would be tremendous!

My apologies if my initial explanation was confusing. My basic point was that I've found barrie chukkas to fit larger than barrie shoes, which fit larger than barrie high boots. Note that I've only tried on one pair of chukkas.

Very nice.

I got a pair of pebble NST boots from Union Made and a suede pair from J Crew earlier this year so they are still doing some non-shells.

Cigar NST on aberdeen today!

Never mind...found a couple reviews of the shell version mentioning issues with the leather strap. For fun, I searched "Alden plaza chromexcel", and of course get LeatherSoul's version...future money already gone.

nephew,
from my experience, i agree with your conclusion. go down half size on your barrie size for chukkas
