I had a very difficult time sizing the LHS.  I think my foot is one that needs a medium width with a narrow heel.  B/D had a slight heel slip but A/C was too narrow.  Went with the B/D and a small tongue pad... fits perfectly now.

I was tempted by a burnished tan LHS.  The B/D sizing fit perfectly for it.  Are shell cordovan LHS slightly roomier than its calf counterparts?

Like I said on the AE thread, nice pickups. I really like their Walnut Shelll Cordovan. It's a beautiful piece of leather and ages well. I will try and post a pic of my year and a half old Strands when I get back home. I need to do some polish on their edges.

I am in a similar area with the LHSes, but went with C lined and D unlined after much trying on at Alden DC and Brooks Brothers... May try a tongue pad on the unlined if getting too much heel slip.

Like you though, I definitely prefer the Alden's (even if they weigh 5 ounces more...) :-)

Great week indeed RTP. I just picked up the AE Dalton's in burnished calf. I like them. Also a great choice in the LHs's. You inspire me as much with your socks as you do with your shoes. Nice combo.

Nice pick-ups.  986 = Quintessential Alden, IMHO. (More-so than the 975)

Interesting claim that the 986 is more quintessential Alden than 975. I suppose the case can be made...

No pocket square for me.  (if that is what we are talking about.)

Congratulations to both you shawnc and you RTP on your fine acquisitions this week. I'm presently not an owner of any AE shell or calf, but the fact that gentlemen with such excellent deportment and style as yourselves find their product worthy has me reconsidering my hither hereto standoffishness toward AE shoes in general. RTP, your purchase of a #8 LHS was a "had to" and a must add to your collection. With or without socks, wear your new shoes in the best of health my friends.

Ooooooo!  Them's fightin' words for some...  I think 563, 986, and 975 are all pretty close as far as quintessential Alden is concerned.  However, the 563 is the only one that Alden actually created.

Thanks Bakes!
