I don't feel the heaviness of any of the boots except for the Indy's and I attribute that to the neocork sole (I think).

Yes.

Similarly, the Wolverine 721 feel quite a bit lighter than most Alden boots I have. I think that's mostly due to the half-lined construction and the single soles.

The lining, or the lack of it certainly contributes a bit. But I think the major difference in weight came from the various types of soles. I have a pair of Alden x Leffot Navy Suede Indy boots with the so-called micro soles. Those are really featherweight. At the other end of the spectrum are the crepe soles.

The reason I bring it up here is that having an unlined shaft and the lighter weight may make this cordovan boot cooler to wear in warmer temps.  Anyone here have similar thoughts or experience with this?

Deliveries from earlier this week...  (a great week, by the way)

Alden LHS color 8 and AE Dalton Walnut Shell Cordovan

I had a very difficult time sizing the LHS.  I think my foot is one that needs a medium width with a narrow heel.  B/D had a slight heel slip but A/C was too narrow.  Went with the B/D and a small tongue pad... fits perfectly now.

I was tempted by a burnished tan LHS.  The B/D sizing fit perfectly for it.  Are shell cordovan LHS slightly roomier than its calf counterparts?

rotflmao.gifThank you my friend.  They're fairly addictive but not nearly to the extent of shell cordovan.

My concern with renovation is always that the color that I've worked so hard for will be masked by wax polish. Luckily this was not the case. Galway eat your heart out, mi'right?

Follow up on my king chukkas from LSBH. Renovateur/Mac method only, never waxed, except when restored by Alden several months ago.

I love how dynamic color 8 is. If you wait long enough, and strip it with renovateur, you can see strokes of pigment. I'm not sure if this is the hands at Horween or the finishing at Alden. Likely the former. Maybe someone with Ruby carmina's can offer some insight.

There's so much shell to worship on the king chukka; it's the working man's wholecut, and these have rolled and mellowed kindly.

Love the captoes. They look really good.

thanks for taking the time and sharing your findings. its funny, I also find my ae much lighter than my aldens. I conducted my own independent study. (ocd as well)

alden shell lwb: 1lb 10.4oz

ae shell lwb: 1lb. 6.6oz

not a big difference irl, but the ae do feel much lighter on.
