My bet is he'll end up with a two tone toe box if he follows your suggestion - the finish is gone and needs to be restored, all the polish in the world won't do that. My 2 cents.
My first Aldens arrived today: brown chromexcel 403 Indy boots. I'm a little surprised though... the outside of the right boot and the inside of the left boot looked like this:
I'm obviously not happy about it but I'm not sure if it bothers me enough to return them. Obviously this would be totally unacceptable if these were dress shoes but since they're Indy work boots I'm not that upset. I guess I'm just shocked that a $500 pair of boots could get past quality control (or lack thereof?) looking like this. What do you guys think? Is this not unheard of?

Thank you Uncle.
I like the new straight lacing scheme on your NSTs. Impeccable shine, as usual.
Looks like the speed hooks from the other shoe contacted the shoe there when in the box, during shipment etc. Mine had one or two of those which was fine with me but those look a bit worse so up to you if you want to send them back.
Mine had similar marks on the heel area. Probably happened during shipping.
They're work boots. Throw them down the drive way a dozen times, then put them on with your favorite jeans and wear them.
Thanks to all of you gentlemen who led me to the light and showed me that keeping the #4 WT boots was the way to go.
Here are a few shots from today's maiden voyage.
Notice how much different they look in the natural light (3rd pic, although a cloudy day here in NYC)
Still amazed at how some of the boots are so well cared, when I bump, scratch, scuff my shoes the very first day I wear them
How high up do you guys lace your boots? Does it make a difference to you if they have eyelets or speed hooks?
