Patrick B-Thanks for the photos of the Cigar PTB-They are awesome examples of the Cigar shell cordovan. I'm also impressed with your polishing and touch up skills. As others have said..You could have a good side business going!

It drives me nuts that you have to know the right people and ask the right questions to score what's sitting on their shelves! I bought 6 pairs of shoes from these guys 2 weeks ago, and Cigar PTB never came up! I would have bought them then. So scoring them was great, just incredible that they werevsitting there, and would have been if I had not asked for them to check again.

I do want to say that all of the Alden stores I've worked with have been outstanding in every way possible. A fantastic experience.

PSA-Alden on Madison has a size 12.5 Cigar LHS

See Ya,
Steve

I know exactly how you feel Steve. I've been after the cigar PTB for a while and missed out a couple of times. I got in the habit of checking TSM about weekly and jumped on it when I found them in my size. Definitely one of my all time favorite makeups. Now, if I could just find a cigar LWB and I'd be done biggrin.gif .

I'll repost these to tide you over.

And lastly, I scuffed up one side of the edge trim pretty badly. I used some brown cream polish followed by brown paste wax to seal it. I need to pick up some AE chili edge dressing but this seems to be holding up well after a few wears.

man I really want a cigar PTB and tan and snuff suede PTB. and I think I'll be done with shoes for a while!

Who regularly gets cigar PTB?

None of the shoes I've scored in cigar, whiskey or ravello were recent productions. From what I can tell, all of them had been in inventory several years (did not impact quality). My point being...if you really want any rare colors you need to make dozens of phone calls and emails. With the exception of a few pair of Ravello due in minute quantities this fall, I know of nothing in rare colors for the foreseeable future, certainly not this year. However...there's some out there if you dig deep enough.

Good Hunting!

See Ya,
Steve

How long does it take to get a shine like that?  Like how many minutes of brushing/buffing?

You used wax and a little water, right?

At Citishoes now... Ran into a veritable treasure trove... Well stocked collection of Barrie NST... Basically all the classics... A lot of cigar and whiskey. First time visit, very pleased. Photos soon

Actually that's just brushing and buffing, no product. Probably 10 minutes of brushing per shoe over the course of a few days.

Uncle, they've aged nicely. Hope you have the overshoes on for today's pair.

This is not directly germane to your question, but these post-20 year-old shoes also look great -- that is, they have held up extremely well.  They have each been resoled at least twice - maybe three times.  The heels have been replaced many times.  I have always cared for them reasonably well - always used shoe trees, polished as needed -- but not babied them.  I have been amazed at how well they have held up and it is a big reason why I am such a fan of Alden shoes.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I have a similar philosophy on caring/wearing my shoes so I'm glad to hear about your experience.
