Is one model better than the other in cordovan?
#8 Longwing. There are no situations I would wear a plain toe in that I would not wear a longwing in but there are situations I would wear a longwing in that I would not wear a plain toe in.

Both would be great but being partial to wingtips I definately would prefer a longwing in either #8 or cigar. Shoemart has the cigar now depending on your size.

You need to know the Alden lasts and your sizing in them.

gnatty8's longwings are perfection. I love those.

Also if Tom does the suede longwing again I am getting a pair.

Right, I just didn't know because I didn't think J Crew specified the last.

I might buy a pair of J.Crew Aldens just to see what Aldens are all about, then if I like them get some real cordovan leather ones.

They don't.

Usually a quick search will reveal this but I have not found it in 10 minutes. I would email Alden and ask. I would be hesitant to believe anything a J.Crew salesperson told me.

The longwings are on the Barrie last which is the one that runs big for most people.
(I'm 99% sure)

They are on the Leydon last, which I have no experience with. Thoughts?

I find the Leydon to run a little on the short side. For example, I wear a 10.5 in the Barrie but am an 11 in the Leydon. Width seems to be about the same. YMMV.

^Yep, I'm the same sizes. Though I'd say Barrie runs half size large and the Leydon is TTS.

That does look like a good, simple boot. The leydon looks a bit sleeker than the barrie if thats what you're after. And the dark brown calf is v. nice...I saw this color for the first time at the Alden Shop yesterday and I was impressed.

The brown calf in those photos looks quite boring, hopefully they're nicer in person.

I agree. With all of the great choices out there I would be looking to drop $425 elsewhere. I think my Darlton Wingtips cost less. For a boot on of the chromexcel Indys or Roy boot should be better.

So do the photos you posted represent the actual shade and color of the J.Crew longwings?
