Did you buff with a soft cloth at the end? I noticed that if you skip that step you won't get that high gloss shine that Mac achieves.
And I apologize for my ungentlemanly conduct before.
When I was in the Alden SF shop recently, I noticed they had bottle of this on the shelf behind the counter. Question is, what do they use it on/for, anyone know?
The Alden SF salespeople recommend Lexol NF as a conditioner for Alden shoes made with Horween Chromexcel uppers.

Great news my friend! I think I personally prefer this shoe to the LS attorney's shoe. While I do like the plaza last better than the hampton, I am a much bigger fan of the traditional oak leather sole over the oiled flex single leather soles.
Another option might be the color 8 tassel moc. That may be the standard men's shoe at my wife's firm. I think Mediahound is correct though, if you'll be a transactional attorney, color 8 tassel mocs, LWBs, BB PTBs, etc... can all work. If you'll be a litigator, the perf cap toe oxford in black may be your best bet. What the hell, get all of them!
