interesting. makes comparing them, as many do, to Alden, much less of a close comparison, imo.

Old news, thought this was common knowledge

It is narrower.

+1.  Many posted pics make me consider how that shoe/boot would fit into my rotation.  But Uncle's pics have his shoes so well placed with great trouser/sock combos that you can't help admire the footwear and have thoughts about adding it to your collection, just as you've stated.

These threads are where I've learned pretty much all I know about footwear (or it's helped or led me to research a particular aspect).  But they have also caused a serious change in budget priorities!  My wife now also has a larger budget for her shoe purchases since I've started frequenting these threads.

New addition to my Alden family.  I'm not a fan of used shoes whatsoever; however, these are a rare vintage--brown pebble grain Indys, Goodyear rubber sole, and canvas lining.  The newer Indys are simply too heavy for my liking.  I figured these would be considerably lighter and they are so.  Oh the glories of Ebay.

With all the talk on this thread of exotics and unicorns and whatever, I find it interesting that many on here with substantial Alden collections - and including plenty of exotic models to go around - almost unanimously consider color 8 (the most widely available color) the king. This should perhaps give some hope to those that are new to Alden, particularly given the recent talk of exotics becoming even more rare than before.

I'm not a huge Indy guy, but I like these. Nice catch.

Maiden voyage with my #8 boots yesterday. End of the day, proceeding with the Mac Method, I noticed two things. #1 all of the speed hooks will rotate slightly, not fixed like my Indys. Is this normal for shell? #2 on the inside lower portion of the left boot the lining is wrinkled, this did not happen on my Indys either. Thanks in advance for any input.

I had been watching it for a while and my size happened to come in stock so I jumped on it.

For under $200., I thought it was a good deal compared to Alden which is $480.

I've heard it is very similar, while the Alden one is a bit more comfortable and certainly a bit higher quality, it may not be worth over 2x the price.

They are no longer available from Allen Edmonds (not sure why) so may be a good time to grab a pair.

Just received my snuff suede Amoks we talked about last week.

Not bad for the price. I don't like the stitching pattern quite as much as Alden, and fit and finish not as high quality. But for this price, I'm pleased. I went TTS and they seem to fit fine btw.

Like those. Great color.

Text message is the best way to communicate in an emergency like this. Even if there are problems the text messages will queue and be delivered. It also takes less bandwidth.

#1 Not only is shell thicker than calf, it seems to have more variation in the thickness. This may be causing the problem you are having. I would contact the retailer.
#2 cannot help.

Just heard that one of the two dead was an 8 yr-old boy.  Will be holding my 8 yr-old daughter a little tighter tonight.  God bless and God be with those in Boston.
