The eyeglass store I stopped by today just happened to be beside Alden DC.  I spent a few minutes chatting with Joe, who is quite helpful btw, and he showed me a new make-up that just arrived -- a navy chromexel LWB.  Sorry I didn't get a photo, but if interested, give them a call.  They really are unique.

I may as well just stick to the Barrie last in favor of the RL Marlow. Now...where to find a cigar PTB...?

Yep, I had to go up a half from the Marlow Wing to the PTB .. 341 last PTB .. 325 Wing

So for me, TTS Marlow PTB and 1/2 down from TTS Marlow Wingtip. My feet are thin, not narrow, normal 9.5D, low volume. I felt, like I,was stepping out of the TTS Wingtip @ TTS.

I knew they had been waiting on these. Really curious to see how they look

Already have a pair of dark brown chukkas, so would like another color for variety.
They'll look just so killer with light chinos.
Also, I'll need to pick up laces... like the way Unionmade pictured them. Only difference is the laces.

Incorrect sir, the welt is also different. Need supply has a flat welt on their version, either way nice purchase.

I too was near the Alden store today. Which cross streets do you work at? Maybe we can get an AldenxFoodtruckfiesta meetup one day in the next few weeks (when Congress is out of session)?

I purchased a pair that unfortunately do not fit me, so I had to return them.  Here's a pic I snagged with direct, natural light.  The photo is taken with an iphone 5 and has been slightly edited, however, it does not affect the tone.  The look a tad darker/richer in person than they do online.  I absolutely love the contrast of the shoes.  Plus, Epaulet is the only retailer that I know of that offers it in a "sleek" Leydon last.  (Let me know if you know anyone else that does! I can't find my size anywhere.)

I could see Frank rocking these, but they aren't his size.  (Creepy that I know that)

El Argentino's pic makes them look almost like tan LWBs, so far as color tone.
I thought they were whiskey. LOL!

First shell purchase! Thanks to all for the inspiration.

Will shell stretch a bit with time? I'm between a 8.5 and a 9 on the Braddock and currently wear a 9D in Barrie. I tried on an 8.5 and had no issues getting my foot in with thick socks, but there was a bit of toe cramp, but not enough to make it uncomfortable. Will shell cordovan stretch a bit after many wears?

If you had said that they were a little tight over the top of your foot, I might have told you to stick with it.

But small in the dimension that makes your toes cramped... ABORT!

Maybe what you really need is a 9C instead of a 9D, which is not easy to find in non-catalog models.

I love the Leydon, and wish Alden used it more, especially with suede offerings. It only looks sleek compared to a Barrie shoe or boot; if you set a Leydon lasted shoe next to something that's actually sleek (i.e. something not made by Alden), then it looks pretty normal for a casual shoe. Also I'm biased because so far Leydon has been the best fitting last for my foot smile.gif

I've tried the Leydon lasted chukka (suede).  It is an excellent make up. I just happen to like the barrie last better.  FYI, if anyone is looking for a cheaper option, on a suede chukka, the AE Amok has a very similar feel and fit compared to the Leydon suede chukka. Not sure that AE still has this particular model in stock though.

I ordered the AE Snuff Suede Chukka earlier this week from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006WDMX7C/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006WDMX7C&linkCode=as2&tag=tt-20

I had been watching it for a while and my size happened to come in stock so I jumped on it.

For under $200., I thought it was a good deal compared to Alden which is $480.

I've heard it is very similar, while the Alden one is a bit more comfortable and certainly a bit higher quality, it may not be worth over 2x the price.

They are no longer available from Allen Edmonds (not sure why) so may be a good time to grab a pair.

And I just got a nice surprise package today...my tan suede chukkas from NRO just arrived. Excellent customer service over the last 2 months (not so much during the first 6 months) while I waited for my size to be produced by Alden.

thanks for replies. the tan lwb from Leffot are out of the question, both because i'm not a huge fan of the longwing and i've sworn off barrie lasted shoes.

Aren't the PTBs on the barrie last?  I really like Alden's shortwing blucher, but I'm not really sure what I think of the plaza last (J.Gilbert's) for that particular makeup.
