What are you guys all Allan Pinkerton? The story is true. The watches were taken to a retailer in NY named Tourneau. It wasn't Rolex headquarters. I get one fact wrong and the league of justice has a field day. I tried so hard to find the article, but I couldn't get through all of the fake Rolex websites. It's like trying to read about fake Viagra and how reali it is to Pfizer Viagra, you'll never get through the offers to find such an article. I did find this one though.

The difference between Tourneau and Rolex HQ is a pretty significant fact.

You also came up with this one fact wrong, a real gem.

The final test came when he took it to Rolex headquarters in NY where they cleaned the watches, certified that they were authentic and printed out warranties for the new watch based on their service and it's authenticity. Rolex could not spot the top of the top Chinese Fake.

Quick question about sizing.  Most say that one should try shoes on after walking quite a bit, or at the end of the day after your feet have expanded some to obtain optimal sizing and fit.  However, I think my foot is largest in the morning after taking hot shower; heat creates expansion. I remember putting on my first pair of Aldens (LWBs) in the morning after a hot shower and thinking, holy crap, I've got the wrong size. It was uncomfortably snug, even with thin socks.  At the end of the workday (I am on my feet all day and walk quite a bit throughout the day), I felt as though I had a different shoe; there was plenty of room, almost too much room.  Throughout the day though, any of my Alden LWBs are the most comfortable, best fitting shoes I own! nod[1].gif

This is my daily experience.  Am I alone with this, or is this experience common?  I am actually wary of trying on shoes at the end of the day or after walking a bunch.  If I do, I take the above into consideration.  From what I have read, I think I may be an outlier.

Weird. I have the same experience.

I have just realized how perverted my priorities have become. I am on my way to a week in Maui and I am having serious regrets that I won't be able to wear my boots or raw denim. For a whole week!! This is serious addiction. Pretty bad.

Very fine practice in my opinion. Out of the box they have no nap so break them in, get them dirty. Then brush, saphire wash, dry, brush up a nap, add treatment, edge trim - now it;s better than new. I watched my grandmother remove a stain on some suede shoes using the white vinegar trick - a nice all natural fix. I would guess my Alden suede is pre-treated do to how well they hold-up in winter weather, but the wash will remove the treatment and keep a matte shine when dry, then I use a spray from Benny's and spray often if you live in wet and salty areas.

I know the grant last usually fits TTS or down a half size but has anyone needed to go up a half size?

Just stopped by NOS in Brooklyn. Alden's are 15% off this weekend. They have a few models in the Aberdeen last, an Indy boot, and snuff suede unlined chukka.
They do not stock sizes smaller that 9.

No, that wasn't the "one fact" you got wrong. Can you tell us more about the Chinese hackers and how it relates to Rolex S/N and fakes?
You said there's a big lawsuit.

Apparently you've never been to a Tourneau. Amongst watch enthusiats, there's an old joke.
Q: What's the difference between a used car salesman and a Tourneau salesman?
A: The used car salesman knows when he's telling a lie.

Your story about the Chinese fakes that could fool everyone with a shadowy organized crime syndicate behind them are the same stories that were going around in the 90s only the fakes were reputed to be from Italy and the crime syndicates were eastern european. The hacking of Rolex computer systems is a nice new touch though.

You've somehow taken a remark from some one (a friend of a friend perhaps?) that the Chinese are buying up dead horses and that's what's causing the cordovan shortage. That sounds entirely plausible.
You then go on to raise some FUD by coming to the conclusion that they're obviously going to start faking Horween cordovan complete with stamp to make fake Aldens and flood the market.

Turn your wayback machine to 2007/2008 if you want to read about the last Cordovan shortage.

That funny Rolex story you linked to is questionable that it happened as stated. The presentation watch backs are engraved with Daytona 24 Winner or something like that.
