Also consider Oak Street Bootmakers.  A little more expensive than Rancourt, but a better return policy.  IIRC the Rancourt trial shoes cost $50, which you only get back if you order.  You could try on the ones Brooks Brothers sells though, I suppose.  Also, OSB is goodyear welted and has a full length insole, which may be a plus or minus depending on your preferences.

Personally, I am hoping to find a proper fit in the BB LHS by Summer.

Oh, and a question, the tongue piece on the right foot is twisted and curved to the right, and after few minutes of walking, it almost completely shifts to the right. Is this normal (I am guessing not, because it is only happening on the right foot), and can this be fixed?
1. super glue a spot on one side to hold the tongue
2. use a couple stiches thru the tongue to hold it to the lacing area
3. pictures below show a " trainer " i made works great you only need it till the tongue resets itself[IMG]

This is correct, so only get the try on pair if you have already decided on Rancourt.

Can you customize OSB as you can with Rancourt?

Also, Rancourt does Shell Cordovan.  Didn't see it avail on OSB's website, but maybe I missed it.

I saw that shoe a few weeks ago, and if they had it in a 12.5D, I would have snatched both the black and the 8.  It was really sharp and looked perfect for an east coast summer.

i guess the issue is, i get that loafers are for loafing an' all, but am i having unrealistic expectations regarding expecting to be able to walk about a reasonable amount without heel slippage?

Really tempted by the unlined BB #8 LHS - but before i try them for size --- I just wanted to check how you guys size your Alden Loafers - when you try them on are they *really tight and snug* / almost too tight? ... how should i think about heel slippage and walking .. is it just too be expected?  One advantage with shell i guess i that i need not work too much about them stretching too out.

Advices appreciated.  Sure i could sell them if it doesnt work out - but it is a lot of dollar to drop.

I just recieved a pair of black unlined LHS from BB today.
That's how I sized mine. Almost uncomfortably tight but I made sure to have room for my toes. I went down a size but up a width.

Funny thing is I was wearing my lined #8 LHS today. I was surprised at how much the lined ones had stretched as compared to the new unlined ones. They're still snug but not uncomfortable. I've only had the lined ones since last summer.

I still get a little heel slip but it's nothing as compared to some C&J loafers I have. The double leather sole on those was like plywood stiff at first. As the sole is softening up and starting to hinge, heel slip is getting better. They're comfortable now but I still wouldn't want to do a lot of walking in them.

Rob, I gave away all my vintage 1977-85 Star Wars figures when I started high school. It still hurts a little when I see a lose storm trooper at a swap meet.
Keep the color 4 atoms, hide them in the back of your closet.
That combo of color, last, and style makes them the sweetest Aldens out there.

Yeah sounds great - will have to try it out when I get a chance.

For guys who obsess over sizing, what are some insoles (leather) that you all would recommend to take up a bit of space?
