Anyone ever seen some strange white substance all over new Color 8's?

Ordered from The Shoe Mart to see how they look (Color 8 and Cigar LWB, will keep only one! ), and the Color 8's have some strange white stuff all over them.

Any thoughts?

To me that looks like "blooming". Cordovan is packed with oils and waxes and those can work their way to the surface of the leather. All you need to do wipe with a damp cloth and brush until your arm falls off with a horse hair brush.

Edit: This is right from Horween, who makes this leather (mind you it's an extreme example, but it's common place). The one on the right is the berfore shoe with the "bloom" and the left is after the shoe was brushed and conditioned...pretty awesome leather

Just got my pair of unlined flex welt PTBs in #8 from Leather Soul. The unlined shell on the vamp is certainly a different feel.

Now we'll see if I end up explaining to my wife how they are different... really... from the standard 990s I have.

Went with 10.5D in these, rather than my normal Barrie 11D, and they feel pretty good to start.

On shell...really? I had always thought not to use venetian on my shell....just brush. I have some venetion and a pair of cigars that look a bit cloudy and dull in spots. Any tips on how to shine it up using venetian. Thanks...JT

you dudes are hilarious. If its any consolation I'm a size 12D so I think i'll be getting my moneys worth.

This deal is coming about due to my initial pair of #8 captoes (that i got with the discount in Dec) falling apart after a few wears.
Not sure if I want to revisit that purchase (since I'm hopeful to get the cigar captoe boot when Alden DC gets them in a few months)

Nice pick up. I hear you on figuring out how to explain more shoe purchases to the wife. I'm in the middle of an over budget bathroom remodel and purchased a pair of #8 LHS last week. I then got an email from J.Crew that my backordered snuff suede LWBs have been shipped and should arrive Friday. Might just hide them in the closet and break em out in the Spring....
