I don't know the history of the NST, and it may very well hearken back to vintage styling. Either way, it doesn't scream old school to me the way indy 405's or 403's do. On those, I really like the look of the cat's paw. It just feels right.
The NST, esp. in cordovan, looks a bit dressy for cat's paw. That's obviously just my opinion, and anyway, I'm biased toward the original leather sole on those. On cordovan boots, I love the look of a smooth, worn, all leather sole, and the way the sole acquires it's own sort of patina.
That said, my tender arches have made me ever more willing to compromise for comfort. Cat's paw may very well be in my future as an alternative to leather on some of my boots.
Arrow, your boots would be awesome even if you had cardboard soles. Enjoy them.
