Hopefully this is the case (Tremont). Wasn't going to proceed here because of the tax and shipping making the deal less appealing. But in the spirit of owning something other than the Barrie, I'm giving the 11 a go. Should arrive in a few days.

To double confirm: I also emailed Orvis customer service, and this was the response: "The Alden Cordovan Shoe (item 5C45) is crafted on the Tremont last. This is similar to the Barrie last. I hope this information is helpful. "

Thanks for that. Now we'll see if I can tell the difference.

Dunno guys, that picture looks like the Barrie all day long to me :stirpot: Some of the online retailers aren't the most accurate in their Alden descriptions. The Tremont has a more angular/plunging toe in profile, while this is more bulbous looking. Plus, I've never seen a longwing on the Tremont (which would actually be a nice shoe). On the bright side, the Tremont and Barrie are fairly similar fit-wise.

I suppose it won't be surprising if you are right. Orvis CS isn't likely to be the best informed source on Alden lasts, and they are certainly answering these questions by rote. So perhaps the model number on the inside of the shoe will tell all. If it says 975, then we'll know.

I think you can call the madison store in NYC and purchase the waxed laces that come with their cordovan boots.

You can. I believe they are $6 per pair of laces with a nominal (or perhaps free) shipping charge in the U.S. I use their waxed boot laces for my stock 403s and they look great.

This + given Orvis's limited Alden supply, I believe it would be less likely for them to have a longwing made for them on a non-standard (Barrie) last.

Finally decided to break in my Leffot cordovan lwb's on NYE for a fancy party that ended up being a party full of drunk idiots that kept spilling drinks all over the place, in one instance, on my shoes. I have literally been nursing these things like a child all day, slowly brushing off smudges with a damp cloth. These shoes are going to give me high blood pressure at some point.

Being that this is my first pair of Alden's, are there any specific cleaning supplies I should purchase that you guys strongly recommend?
