Does anyone know if this is true during sales as well?
Without digging through hundreds of pages (search has failed me), how frequently, if ever, does Alden have direct sales events?

If you can get the JCrew style when they have a sale before they remove the Alden item from their sale items. Doubt they'd have custom sizes...

JCrew has another 30% off (CHEER), but Alden excluded...

Hi, I love the cigar shell alden captoe boots they are beautiful. I have a question that I hope someone here could answer for me. I just purchased a pair of the Cigar Shell captoe boots on the Grant last with a commando sole from Alden of D.C and I was wondering what size others bought compared to your trubalance Indy size? I wear a 8.5 in the trubalance jcrew Indy boot which fit great with Wool socks. My big toe reaches the end of the white stitching. I bought my cigar shell boots in a size 9. I am unsrue of my right foot fit because my right heel digs into the inside of the boot. I am not sure if it is something with the newness of shell cordovan which is tougher then say chromexcel leather and maybe over time with wear the break in process will loosen this up or maybe it is just my foot? I was wondering if anyone else had any similar issues with Shell cordovan and if someone could maybe offer some insight because this is my first Shell boot.

Indy size-8.5
Wolverine 1000k mile boot size- 8.5 with length room at the front
Alden Grant last 9?

The general advice is to go up in either width or length from your Indy size. So you should order a 9D (assuming you wear 8.5D in indy) or a 8.5E. Alden DC stocks E sizes, so check to see if they have yours.

so... bluecollar you are saying i gotta wait till the new year or so? :(
damn.

I know mine wont be quick. I cant speak for your shipment. I'm not totally sure how USPS is dealt with over seas...but they sure as hell are not fedex / ups etc. Especially this time of year, they will be backed up with Christmas cards/packages etc.

Got that refined workwear look, amico.

NYR I have those chinos. Wish they were fully lined with that plaid liner, but what do you expect for the money.

A good day for the Derosa's !!

These are excellent. Unionmade really hit it out of the park with these -- although I'm apt to like most any shortwing. Post evo pics, if you please.

(Although I will say, the brown eyelets look a bit casual with those trousers.)

The good thing is that they can be worn casual or dressed up. They are very versatile and are great when the weather is questionable.

I too think it's a great look. In my mind, it would have been perfect with a commando sole.

You all know that you can get a commando sole put on your shoes, right?

Did you treat those with leather dressing? If so, what kind?

I did not treat them. I think this leather is meant to be beaten and to brave the elements. It will be good character building for them.

Yes, I do. It's just more convenient if it comes with one directly from the retailer and you don't have to incur the added expense of installing it onto the boot or shoe.

Alright guys, seeking more opinions from cordovan shine experts.

I still can't figure out how to get my right shoe to shine up like my left. Not sure how visible it is in this picture, but the shine is just duller on the right shoe. The texture also appears rougher to the naked eye. I've done one Renovateur coat on the left shoe, and two on the right. Have also done 4 or 5 sessions on the right shoe of 5 mins brushing followed by some vigorous buffing with (1) an old tshirt and (2) the buffing cloth that came with a cheapo Kiwi travel shoe care kit I had lying around from days of yore. The left shoe shined up with just a few mins of brushing and a quick buff.

I took another picture under flash and artificial light to attempt to highlight the issue:

Anyone have any ideas? I keep feeling like these pictures don't do justice to how different the finish looks, but it's bugging the hell out of me.

Have any of you had issues with the Aldens that you have received from Jcrew... defects, sole dressing on the shoe, natural edging with black marks, cuts in leather things like that.

Those are common issues with Alden in general.
