I picked up my purchases on my drive back through town about a week later...
Amore Clothing has more Aldens in store than what's displayed online and Robert can order any stock Alden from the catalog (no special makeups afaik), provided they are in stock at Alden.
Here's the good great part: #8 LHS are $499 and LWB are $525. In fact, they offer all their Alden shoes at very competitive prices. Robert explains that thanks to lower operating costs, they're able to pass along some savings to their customers. Awesome.
I encourage everyone to support this local business and recommend you e-mail Robert to check stock/availability before placing an order. Don't hesitate to mention that you read about them here; I promised Robert that I'd spread the word about their great customer service. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

You picked up a pair of classics there. Enjoy wearing those. And I like that card case as well.

I think the Messrs Amore may get a few emails after seeing the prices. Tempted to check on a pair of 974s after the recent discussions here. Anyone want to facilitate by offering thoughts on whether I should go 10.5E or 11D in Tremont if 10.5E Barrie is my size?

For the Tremont: some say same size as Barrie (including some retailers); some say TTS.

My standard Barrie size is 9D. My 974s are 9D.

The Barrie overall is slightly bigger, IMO.

If you have issues like a wide foot or a high instep, I would go one size up in Tremont - I wear 9.5E/10D in Barrie and wear 10E in Tremont. I had to sell my #4 Atoms in Tremont because they were too small (I got them in 10D). My 10E whiskey wingtips feel great.

Wow, thanks for sharing this. Those LWB and LHS look great. How much was that card holder?

Any info on the return policy? UPDATE: I asked, Robert said they offer store credit for returns.

Okay, if I want to get in on the pre-order game for future ravello or cigar makeups, who should I contact? Looks like my first Alden boot is gonna have to be #8 since that's all I can actually order without waiting a year.

For those of you waiting for the Color 8 NST boot on the Plaza, I recently received the following email (August 28) from Yenni at JGilbert:

It's scheduled to ship end of August but when I last spoke with Alden they quoted me 2-3 weeks out. So hope to receive the order 2nd week of September.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a color 8 boot. color 8 is still the king, IMHO. i recommend a color 8 indy. much sleeker in cordo and easily dressed up for business casual (don't recommend for a suit).

I agree that color 8 is an excellent idea and there are lots of nice boots with leather or commando soles in it that are more or less ready to go. You aren't settling here, you are getting a staple.

I don't really wear black much at all.

Dunno, the Indy's look clunky to me compared with the wingtip boots or even the captoes.

I love my ravello, but it's not particularly useful in my wardrobe.

In pictures yes. Real life, not so much. I have a grant captoe boot. Sleeker, yes, but a completely different animal. What do you plan on wearing with the boots? Slimmer euro stuff means a slimmer last. I'm wearing navy bb Milano chinos and whiskey indys right now. Stellar combo.
