Here's another example of stripping black edge trim for anyone interested. These were 2nds from shoemart - I wear them all the time but didn't mind taking a chance. They are kind of jackalopes with the Atom pattern and the eyelets but serving me well enough. I'm pretty happy, makes the shoe a little more interesting.

Disagree. PTBoot on trubalance is a great color and will look awesome beat to **** or shined up.

Black shell wingtip boots are weird imo, though.

These are the other Shoemart 2nds I picked up. Brown suede PTBs on the Barrie last with a flex sole. All my shoes are 8.5D Barrie but these 8Ds work too. A little snug in the forefoot but they stretched a little after a night with shoe trees in them. The brown suede boots I purchased are going back as they were a nice to have but not a must have.

In regards to black shell, I have a pair of LWBs in black shell and I love them. The shine is outstanding.

agree with all the comments on black shell. everyone who wants a black shoe should purchase a pair. The color is deep and infinite and reflects light beautifully

I like the contrasting edge trim as well (just went through a protracted exercise with Alden Restoration to get them to retro-fit a pair of the color 8 LWBs with commando soles and antique edge trim - very nice result) but... unless you change the color of the welting (which I believe means re-soling the shoe) it doesn't look great IMO.

Anyone else think the recent cigar shell shoes are almost as dark as Color 8? It may be my tired eyes but from 5 feet away they are almost indistinguishable.
