Alden cordovan chukkas are excellent

+1, i have a pair of shell chukkas, but at the same time, unless you plan on buying the whole Alden rainbow, i'd be somewhat judicious about your choice in colors.  i ended up getting whiskey since it's a pretty casual color that lends itself well to this shoe type, and since the simplicity of the design best shows "rich" colors like whiskey/ravello and perhaps cigar.  I'd personally shy away from this shoe in black and #8.  But that's just my opinion...

I'd go for the exotic colors in the chukka before 8 and black, but I wouldn't shy away from 8 and black. Another theory that can be utilized in an effort to be judicious about Alden shell selections is to not double-up on the same shell color in the PTB and chukka. Go with one or the other. With trouser leg down they present almost the exact same look. Although I will say there is a decided difference in appearance between the ravello chukka (antique edging) and the ravello PTB (dark edging). The other 4 colors, when comparing chukka vs. PTB, will provide a very similar look.

But it's just a theory. Double up if you must. biggrin.gif

The Tarlow (Alden) and Horween (duh) families concur.

Leather Soul black shortwings...a la casual.

These hit the spot for what I was going for...a dressy black shoe that not only serves the obvious business purpose but that can also elevate and anchor a more casual look.

French blue slim trousers today

EDIT: excuse the granny knots.

Saw these brown LWB at Alden DC. Seemed as if they had just gotten them, so size selection should be good. Give them a call.

There seems to be some problems in the quality check.

Does everybody size down a half for the Barrie last?  I have the unlined Brooks Cordovan Penny Van last (9.D) and my toes are at the end, okay for a loafer but I like some room between my toes and the end of a Blucher.  Me = US 9.5E or 9.5D.  Ordering the Longwing and don't want to be banging my toes up against the ends.  Yes, I've read volumes on this but still uncertain.  Thanks for input, I need Whiskey now please....

i wear the same size in van and barrie. the barrie fits a hair bigger anyway and the laces will pull your foot back in the shoe. I wear 11d in both and the 11.5 feels massive to me in barrie.

Does it normally take NRO a week to "assemble" an Alden order? Am I being picky after being spoiled from Amazon.com orders?

Are those Alden's or Red Wings?  They look like Red Wing Beckman 9016, but I don't quite understand what you are saying in your post.
