Excellent, sir. Thank you very much.

So what I'm gathering, If the shoe/boot has to much slop forwards and backwards, ie toes being able to hit the end if you slide forward, then you need to go down in size? And if your foot can wiggle too much left and right, ie your heal does stay put and can start to slip out the shoe or boot then you need to go down in width? If this is the case I think I need to go down a 1/2 size AND a width baldy[1].gif

Ravello chukkas arrived today. After feeling very let down with the CXL Indy boot, I am very pleased with these guys. Will post pics soon.

These things are stunning...American Longwing

FYI, these are one of the Aldens we'll be releasing at the SF 10 year vendor showcase. (NYR just got his since he preordered them last year.)

Is this the same leather used on the all-weather walkers and welterweights?

It's a no brainer, especially since you stated the Marlow is "a better shoe" and agree that the fit and comfort is better.
If the "extra savings" was of any concern, we'd all be here commenting on our latest acquisitions from Cole Haan and Rockport.

Your point is well taken.  All I meant was that you're not getting that much more with the Marlow.  I've seen the patina of an aged Marlow and i still say the alden color 8 looks better.  Now the older model of the Marlow (Darlton) has a different color shell which is spectacular.  It looks more like a slightly darker version of the ravello shell.  That is by far a superior looking shoe, aged and patina'd.  (See Joachim's - terradilavoro - post below) No need to get personal with Cole Haan/Rockport comment.  Wasn't trying to find bargain basement prices, just the better overall shoe and an extra $250

I'm not sure if anyone asked this yet, but for those of you who have owned Aldens a while...  How old are they?  How many years do they stay good looking with normal upkeep?  Anyone have pictures of Aldens that are many years old and still in rotation?

Thanks

If you play your cards right you can get them for 55% off, i think (their 40% sale plus something they call the 15% kicker on top of it). I forget the details but I did this 2 or 3 years ago and grabbed the plain toe marlows for something like $430 out the door. Beautiful shoes. I also have the old shell standard chukka they called the McCallum in brown shell and that's nice too. A shame they don't offer that boot anymore.

TBH, I slightly prefer Alden's color 8 to C&J's brown shell, while prefering C&J's classic Marlow last and overall styling (esp. on the chukkas) to alden's patterns. So to me it's a wash.

Ralph private sale is going on right now.
Marlows are going for 30% off plus a 15% kicker so 40.5% off making them $505 plus tax.
If you didn't get a seekrit code, call customer service and beg for one or call a store.

And speaking of awesome shell...
A Fine Pair of Shoes is putting together a customer order for Alfred Sargent Ramsey double monks in Horween Whiskey shell.
They'll be 405gbp shipped after taking off VAT which isn't bad at all.

This I don't quite understand. I was under the impression that LS was a brick and mortar store and that the only "preorders" made were by customers who are "walk-ins" not phone or online orders.

I thought that LS only sold its first run of shoes to in-store customers, and then if there's any leftover stock, they open that up to orders over the phone or through email.

I'm completely confused now...
