Your ideas (and Namor) of casual are highly subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. Speaking as a person with a wider-shaped foot many of the "sleeker" lasts simply don't work for me. I like the way the other lasts look but recognize they really don't work for my foot.
If the Barrie is good enough for Uncle Mac, it is good enough for the many members of this forum whose feet are wide and whose sense of taste veers away from "sleek". This is Alden's claim to fame no less. A classic hefty shoe.
It would be nice to see you focus on *what you like* rather than piss on my Barrie rainbow constantly.
welcome to the gunboat club!
no need to get into the gutter
Just placed a preorder for the color 4 wingtips. They said they ordered 3 pairs in my size (10.5D) so it looks like stock will be super limited.
And for Lwb, what color would you say is best for casual / business casual use? Thinking #8 and Ravello but kind of tempted by Cigar as well.
Who did you preorder the #4 wingtips from, please?
well said Kippy. I agree with everything you said especially the bit about Alden being a classic American company. When it comes to boots, ill buy Alden. For dress shoes, English shoes
The hampton and aberdeen last work for dress shoes, undoubtedly. For people with weird feet, the modified last bluchers are particularly interesting and elegant in a strange way.
Though, for the money, it seems the English makers do make a more polished dress shoe. But would that stop me from owning, say, the cap toe bals on the hampton last in whiskey cordovan from the Madison Ave. store? No way.
(high five) i like the barrie by going tts, but with a C width. compensates for the clumsy fit
This is good to hear. I went down half-size and to a C width and the toe is too snug. I was gunshy about springing for ANOTHER pair of shells with only hopes that they'd fit. But, I think I'll give the TTS down a width method a try!
They have a captoe and wingtip. The wingtip is apparently the exact same as the current model except in #4. Not sure about the captoe. They said delivery is supposed to be June but they said expect it in July or August.
