All the Aldens I have tried have a pretty shallow toe box area, I can't imagine fitting comfortably into either of my boots with any more thickness up in that area. Maybe if you had a 1/2 length one or something but I don't think a full one would work very well.

visited moulded shoe the other day and they have some pretty nice suede boots that seem to be from forever ago.

also i don't know if this has ever been mentioned as i don't read this post, but alden on madison has begun sending shoes over to alex's shoe repair for customers who want a commando sole.

I wear 3/4 length orthotics in my Aldens and yes, it takes some trial and error to get the sizing right. I don't know if I could ever get a full orthotic into any of their standard last shoes or boots. Probably there is not enough room under the toes in whatever size would be best for your ankle. But I have not tried so much, not liking any of the full-length orthotics I've tried. As long as I stay in the same orthotic, my sizing is consistent across makers and styles. For sure, though, the fit is more immediately better on shoes that have more flat insoles. The Plaza last shoes, for example, take the short orthotic as easily as a pair of Chucks.(But my Grenson Rose shoes are the best w/ these orthotics, FWIW.) Shoes with more contoured footbeds can make the orthotic function strangely. They can break in OK but there's a lot of wearing shoes often before you can conclude if they are going to work long-term or not.

yeah, that was a response to your post. It was the closest ones I could find. How does the Copley last compare to the Trubalance? If I were an 8EE in Trubalance, what size should I get in a Copley last?

What do you guys think those Leather Soul 5th anniversary chukkas are going to be?

They must be special if they are to honor the 5th anniversary of Leather Soul...

It would be hard to improve upon the standard shell chukkas, but I'm sure Tom has figured out a way!

Crepe sole? Different last? I'm excited to find out!

I know what the 5th anniversary shoes will be but I don't know if Tom wants people to spill the beans on it. Let's just say that it would be a very versatile shoe and as far as I know there's a pair reserved for me.

No surprise here, the 5th anniversary chukkas will be on the Leydon last with regular close heel dress welt and single oiled leather sole. Limited to 100 pairs made, 50 pairs in #8 and 50 pairs in black. Free rochester shoe trees included for $595. We've been selling them in store for about 6 months now so they're actually almost all gone.

Leather Soul, any chance you would do a 'reissue' of that black suede plaintoe Indy (I just saw it in the Recent Purchases thread here.. not sure of the model number but I think someone else could chime in. I'm sure they'd be a hit.

^^ damn I didn't see those. They look fantastic. I'd love to see some chunkier Aldens in an offwhite leather/nubuck. Anyone seen any?
