My latest, and probably last pair of Alden Boots. LTD Adventurebilt Alden 405's. Love these boots. Its a thicker leather then the standard Indy, obvious darker brown, dark moc toe stitching, all leather lined, and are built same exactly the same as the vintage 405 boots of the late 70's early 80's (which is different then today's 405, 403, 404 from Alden). Even the die logo inside the shoe is the vintage 80's version. Had to wait a year for them to be made, and then had to send them back to the factory as the tongue was too small. Just got them back today. It's hard to capture the true colour of the boots in the light in my place, but this is the best I could do.

How do you wait a year for shoes? I ordered Indys and have been waiting since November. I can't take it any more!!

If the shoes are not a must, it makes it a lot easier. My black shells are expected to be in around June. My ravellos are expected in late summer to early fall. My whiskeys are about 1 year away.

I try to forget about them. When they come, they come.

I own the J crew boots in a size 8 D, and I own the 975 shell longwings in a size 7.5 D. I am pretty happy with the sizing on both.

Why did you get a larger size in the boots? Did they feel too tight keeping them at your normal shoe size?

My guess is that one would wear thicker socks with boots, so they may be more inclined to go up 1/2 size if necessary.

Ha, just got told by my wife that my Indys turned up today.

Can't wait to get home to try them on.

Discovered another Alden online retailer: Pelle Line Shoe. Didnt know that they previously existed. $25 off for signing up to emails When I put in promo code "50off" It says it will deduct $100 at checkout. When I get to checkout, the total unfortunately doesnt reflect the $100 discount. If it happens to work for anyone else, let me know

What do you guys used to host/post pictures on the site? I want to post photos of my #8 longwings and ravello PTBs (the ravello is probably becoming my favorite shoe of all time)

On an unrelated question, can those of you with Alden loafers compare the fits of the Alden leisure handsewn moccasin, Brooks Brother's "unlined" leisure handsewn moccasin, and the Alden tassel loafers? I tried some LHS in whiskey on at Alden NY recently and the fit didnt work - it was too tight across the vamp. The vamp was effectively "too low" for my feet regardless of the width of the shoe I chose. However, I was wondering if the lack of lining on the Brooks Brothers version would alleviate this issue. Same question with the tassel - while Aberdeen is a less roomy in the toe box than Van, the vamp appears higher, so sizing up on the Aberdeen may actually fit me a lot better (the Aberdeen last looks similar to the Darlton tassel loafer last, and those fit me just fine in US10.5D, and I wear Barrie 10D/9.5E). I'm looking for an Alden loafer in either black or whiskey.

Do you wear/like/are interested in the Modified Last?

Please check out the link below. I'm looking to begin the process of soliciting Alden to allow U.S. retailers to order special makeups in Shell Cordovan (currently Alden only allows shell makeups in this amazingly comfortable last to retailers in Japan and France).

This is what a modified boot in shell can be:

+1 on Modified Shells

Moulded Shoe 'owns' the Alden US modified market and thus, selection and pricing is very limited and pricey (minimum $450 per style).

I own 5 pairs of Modified Aldens; 2 x 5921 (snuff and black suede, rubber sole), 2 x #591 (discontinued nubuck black and brown, rubber sole), and 1 x #542 (brown calf, leather sole); all in either 3E or 4E.

I'm awaiting a special markup (ordered thru Moulded in December) for a chocolate suede long wing, metal eyelids, with rubber sole. The cost is ridiculous (for a suede shoe) but unfortunately, there is no other available option for purchasing this style shoe.

Again, sign me up...
