ON TOPIC, J. Crew has added Leather Defender since they added new Alden offerings. Anyone get a chance to pick it up, since it's more widely available?

Shameless plug (Remove it/report it as spam please if it's in the way): NeedSupply is having a contest on FaceBook currently where they will give out a free gift to the person with the most votes. I'm looking to pick up my first pair of Indy's through this. If you could help me out, I'd appreciate it a lot!

you're about the 10th person to ask about the effectiveness of Leather Defender (I'm in that group as well) without getting a good answer afaik. it seems its kind of an unknown

Based on the description, I certainly would not use this product. The fact that it says not safe for suede or nubuck is a red flag imo.

The product Applegard is a protectant that CAN be used on all leathers including suede and nubuck, and works quite well in my experience.

Of course, the notion of spraying any product all over shell cordovan flies in the face of common sense, so I won't be doing this.... that's just my take on it

alden DC sells and uses this on their shoes. kathy told me when i purchased that is works amazingly well on shell and it was specifically designed for shell thats why it says dont use on nubuck or suede

i havent used it or tested it but thats what she said when i purchased it 2 weeks ago

edit: and your supposed to spray on cloth and wipe on shoes, not spray direct on shoe. not sure how much of a difference that is but fyi

You don't spray it on. You spray it on a cloth and wipe it on, according to the instructions.

It doesn't do much other than protect shell from water spots in the rain. It works for that but that's about all it's designed to do. Maybe add a bit of shine too.

Good one, but I prefer this for easiness of use, started using it today:

Yeah I've found that as long as you wipe off the water (using cloth) after wearing your shell in the rain, the chance of it drying up with water spots is significantly reduced

Not always practical to do this. That's were Leather Defender comes in handy.

Anyone know where I can get a ravello belt to match my boots. The Shoemart has them on their website, but they don't have any instock and I was told that they can't get me the one I want. What's good source?

According to Leffot, the Albany Tan Chromexcel belt pairs nicely:
