Ya for sure. Wipe with a damp cloth. Let dry. Rub in some Venetian cream. Let "dry" and brush the snot out of them! This guy did it on his PTBs ( so have i but i have no pics) 350x261px-LL-21907fe0_27F39310.jpeg

Yep. Nick Horween himself recommends and uses Venetian Shoe Cream.

"What are your favorite products to use for the preservation and maintenance of shell cordovan?
My standby is neutral Venetian Cream. C.A. Zoes is a great, old Chicago company and they make great stuff. There are so many different great products out there, though. The Saphir line is also great, and I know there are a million different products that people swear by. Everyone has a slightly different preference, so I always encourage people to use the products that give them the appearance they like."

But keep in mind that you would only want to use it very occasionally. Mostly just brushing and wiping ala The Mac Method is going to be key. You gotta work it and bring out the natural oils/shine of the shell from within.

Hidden in closet... yes... AF53s currently in that very state and I'm now considering another pre-order. shog[1].gif This is all in the DSM IV somewhere, I'm sure.

I'm going to go a bit counter to people and really suggest people pick up Alden's dark brown paste wax for cigar. I have treated my cigar captoe boots twice with this wax (both times after my standard wipe down / saphir / brush application). Don't use much, only a little. The shoes look blindingly shiny and get complemented quite a bit after such a treatment. Then proceed to use mac method for the next couple of weeks. Repeat with wax when the shine looks dull or there are nicks to fill in.

I am wearing my #4 Atoms now - I will likely give them their first Saphir/Saphir treatment (Reno followed by Mahoganey wax) this weekend. I'll post before/after results.

hate to add another sizing question, but here goes - the only Alden lasts I have tried on so far are Barrie and Trubalance:

I have #8 wingtip boots on the Barrie that are a size 12D - they are a little wide and ideally I would size down in the width to a C or maybe a B, but since they are boots I can just lace them up tight and that pretty much takes care of the problem (I tried on a 11.5D in the same boot but those felt a little tight, if they made a 11.75 B or C, that would probably fit me best).

My Indy 403's on the Trubalance are a 12C and those still feel a little wide as well, I probably would have gotten a B width if it was available. Again, as long as I lace these tight, they feel OK for walking around.

Now, based on this should I try a 12D or maybe 12C on the Plaza? I'm afraid to size up to 12.5 because those may end up being too long. What's the difference in width between the Barrie and Plaza? If anyone had any real life pics of a Barrie shoe and Plaza shoe side-by-side to show the differences in overall length that would be really helpful, thanks!

Beatlegeuse, it sounds like me and you have similar width issues with Barrie/Trubalance, where I just tie my Barrie boots up nice and tight and they work. I went up a half size on Plaza and stayed in the same D width and they definitely aren't too long. Nice and slim and no width issues and I can tie them normally. I would recommend you go 12.5D. I am fairly confident those will work for you. I don't think they would be too long for you. I am moving so all my shoes are packed away, otherwise, I would take some photos for you.

thanks for the info! Also, FWIW I tried the C&J for RL Marlows, got them in a 12D, and they fit fine in the length but they were too wide so I had to return them. Not sure if that changes anything or not, but looks like I'll most likely be going for the 12.5D.

EDIT: not sure if it's just me, but boots seem to fit tighter than shoes. I just sold a pair of #8 Barrie LWB's in a 12C because they were still a little wide for me. I would tie them as tight as I could get them, but they still seemed a little loose, yet my 12D boots seem to fit well enough as long as I tie them tight.

Is there any retailer currently stocking chukkas on a crepe sole in snuff suede or tobacco chamois? I know j.crew has them in sand suede, but I'm looking for something darker.

I'm sitting here looking at a pair of Color 8 LWB and Cigar LWB and it feels wrong to have to decide between the two! But only one can stay. Hmmm...

On one hand, I already have the Leathersoul Natural Chromexcel LWB, so perhaps that covers my browns, and the Cigars may be redundant? But not really?
On the other hand, I'm looking to replace the Leffot Color 8 LWB that didn't end up working out for me, so perhaps I should stick with Color 8?

Both pairs look great, it's gonna be a tough decision. smile.gif

They're both very nice. The 975 is a complete classic though:

and the Cigar LWB is quite unique and a bit different. Consider a Ravello LWB too wink.gif

Did I make your choices any easier (evil laugh...) shog[1].gif

Hello,

would you do me a favour, please?

I need some help to identify the last on theses ALDEN 34023 F Suede Tassel Loafers.
243

I got the 666 Tassel Moccasin in brown Suede which are build on the Aberdeen Last in 11 C/E - slightly to narrow and short unfortunately - don't want to order overmentioned ones in the same size.

Thank you!

You, or someone else in this thread, could check out the chukkas I am selling:

Dark brown suede, crepe sole, Leydon last, size 9.5D. I believe I have worn them three times.
