I had the Shoe Mart ship directly to B. Nelson, having already alerted Nick to look out for them. Once they got there, it did not take long for them to do the work. There was a little delay while waiting for a new shipment of Dainite soles from England, but that isn't really an issue with B. Nelson. I found that Nick was very helpful, and he seems to be fairly knowledgeable. And in the end the quality of the work appears to be excellent. They've done two re-soles for me now and I would be very likely to go back. I think that if you are investing in nice shoes you want to make sure that they are in capable hands.

On the Moulded Shoe site, there is a picture that says "41145H" under Modified Last (here's the link)

Trust the site =P. Those definitely appear to be modified to me. Not sure what they mean by "waxhide" on the link, but given that they describe the 403 as chromexcel, looks like it'snot CXL. Could also always call up Moulded Shoe and ask.

You are braver than me. I wouldn't be willing to do something that would preclude return without giving them a good close looking over first. Your pair looks nice and I'm glad it worked out for you.

1. Ship it to home
2. See if it is okay
3. Return it to shoe mart
4. Wait a few days, order the same pair, to B. Nelson
5. $12 Profit!

New cigar PTBs. Dainite soles courtesy of B. Nelson. I think they look pretty good. The edge trim might now be lighter; perhaps they sanded it down a bit. It will probably darken a little with wear.

I think those look great, and are good evidence of why I wish Alden used dainite. as I say every week lol

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback on them.

Good point. In my case it was necessary to ship direct since I live in England. But I do understand about the QC worries people have with Alden.

I have never used B. Nelson but there is a thread on the MC forum.

Brand new shell Codovan looks amazing. It looks so smooth and perfect, it'd be nice if it stayed this way forever! Anyways, not really feeling the soles on these shoes, but may be necessary for wet weather. I'd love to get something like this on my Pitt boots though.

Sigh. I know this is the Alden thread but I just had to pass this along. What is Allen Edmonds up to? Pink shoes? Are they serious?:

Okay, they call them 'light Red' but still. I'm not digging their new stuff at all. It's like they are trying too hard to be cool and going over board or something.

This is what I appreciate most about Alden, they are more traditional, timeless and remain classic.

BTW, you are in England? The Dainite soles come from England. You could not find a cobbler there to do the sole replacement?
