Ps, for anyone searching/interested, you can get 2.5% back on a BrooksBrothers.com order if you go through FatWallet.com

Let me know how you find the size compares to your Barrie lasted shoes.

Will do. I ordered the same size I wear in a Barrie.

Hey guys, what do you think are the most "military looking" black shell boots that Alden makes? Several retailers have their own unique markups that differ slightly but would like some input if anyone has an opinion. Thanks.

Thanks, I saw those too and thought the same thing until I realized they were on double leather soles. Wouldn't commando soles be better for that particular look? What do you think between captoe and PTB?

I don't know. I don't think officer uniform boots necessarily have commando soles. Field/combat boots probably yes though so it depends on what you are looking for.

Hi guys, in need of advice I know I could only get here.

I am relatively new to dressing like an adult, having been slowly building my wardrobe in essentials I have finally come to the step where I believe I need a nice pair of shoes that I can casually wear that aren't Vans.

I've been eyeing a pair of #8 LWB /w Antiqued Edge and was wondering if this is alright as something to buy as my first serious shoe purchase? I know shoes are something worth saving up for something nice and really like the look of longwings as a casual shoe. I just cordovan may be something for the more seasoned dressers and something I should shy away from in the beginning.

Any tips for this newbie?

after how many wears until heal slippage stop.... also will wearing dress socks, thin cotton socks , or athletic socks make a difference.

I would say that is perfectly acceptable as your first shoe. To reference I am 28 have 10 Aldens and in a little while I will get the 975 with Antique edge. I wish I would have started with the cord first. Currently 2 out of the 10 are cord. # 8 is nice because It can be dressed up or down...Jeans, khakis, suits... and you are good. to keep them going year round get the bottoms topyd. Also get venetian shoe cream and a brush and you are good to go.

I'd agree - #8 is an incredibly versatile color.

My next (distant) purchases are going to be a #8 Captoe boot or #8 LWB. I like my shortwings, but like the overall vibe of a LWB better for casual wear.

Hey guys, just picked up my Alden suede flexwelt chukkas, and love them. Have a few questions tho for people with experience with this model-

1. Does the suede stretch out at all? Right now they're hugging my feet (although my toes aren't hitting the end or anything), and the vamp feels a little tight, despite me having narrow feet to begin with. I've heard suede stretches and have had exp. with suede stretching before, should I expect the same here?

2. I put shoe trees in immediately tonight, and because the shoe was unstructured, it was sort of tricky. I was afraid I'd rip the suede if I forced them too hard. They're still very tight from being unworn. Do I have to worry about suede tearing?

1. Yeah, mine were tight across the vamp when new. They loosened up after a while.
2. Don't worry about it.

I was in the downtown Manhattan Brooks Brothers the other week and noticed that they didn't have any shell cordovan shoes in stock.  I asked a salesperson about it and he said they were on  a shell hiatus, but wasn't sure why or for how long.  Yesterday I stopped into Alden on Madison and mentioned it to one of the guys.  He said that BB was being punished for selling Shell at 25% off.  Has anyone else heard about this?  Are other Brooks Brothers still selling shell?
