and since I couldn't get Bruce tix yesterday, I need to console myself somehow :)

here's hoping he announces more shows ...

J Crew dark brown longwings and Leathersoul snuff suede plain toe blucher. I was thinking about selling the dark brown longwings and getting a #8 cordovan longwing instead, but I'm very happy with the patina they have developed over the past year, and will probably hold on to them.

Same boat here. My solution was to size down in length, and take the D width. Instead of a 9C, I find a 8.5D works perfectly fine for me. Of course, this may not work for everyone.

Medallion tip, but it's a start. Gives you the toe shape pretty clearly. Hope it helps.

Alden's storm welt is commonly seen on stock Indy boots (405, 403, & 401). It has one row of visible stitching and a sort of bump at the edge where it meets the uppers. I've been working with Alden details for a couple of years now so you can take my word for it.
There are 3 Alden welts that I know of (all are Goodyear welts): Flat or Regular, Reverse, and Storm. Any of these will be either all-around or 3/4 which is sometimes called a 270 degree welt. The 3/4 welt has what's called a close heel. Not "closed" heel as I sometimes hear it. Any welt can be found with a dark stain, an antiqued finish, or natural (no stain). The welt can also be extended, which makes the welt stick out a little further from the edge of the shoe and there can also be a stitch separator technique applied which runs a series of grooves around the welt in between each stitch that emphasizes the look of the stitching.
class dismissed

Thanks for the info.

Jason, if Alden's "storm welt" is not sewn directly to the upper, can it still be called a storm welt? At that point, does it technically become a reverse-split welt? Can you explain in more detail the difference between the storm and reverse welt beyond the looks (one is beaded as you say and the other has a taller edge to it).

Picking up my Alden suede chukkas on Tuesday, along with some shoe trees. Will be taking these to stormy London, what other sorts of care items should I purchase for the shoes?

Most beautiful thing I have seen all day. Was at Alden DC today and saw the ravello longwing and tried on the captoe boot in cigar and color 8 on grant last. (Note: My foot is true 9D on Brannock (sp?), little between 9C and 9D, and the LWB on Barrie in 8.5D is a great fit and the 8.5D on grant last also fits great but is a little bit closer fit than the Barrie in the same size. Obvious to some, but hopefully that helps some trying to decide sizes (8D in grant was too short.). Still can't get over the color 8 and how the color shapes up the more you wear it. Having so much fun wearing my LWB/Color 8. Heard that they should be getting more of the cigar captoe grant in the spring in April or May. Great trio of folks there - Kathy, Joe and Che. Real pleasure shopping there.

11.5 D Epaulet Officer Indy up for sale - http://www.styleforum.net/t/285357/alden-epaulet-officer-indy-11-5-d-free-shipping. Very sad they are not my size.

I have these boots, and they are wonderful. As far as I know, Epaulet is out of them, so this seems like a great opportunity if they're your size.
