3) break in the outsoles slightly, so that the toe of the shoe does not suffer heavy wear the first time they are worn out of doors. (I've witnessed this one firsthand).

nephew,
very well stated!

I have also traveled with my 404's. No problems with security and the speed hooks did make it incredibly easy to put on/remove the boots.

Rocking my Leather Soul Black Calf Chukkas to my company holiday party today. Not enough love for the black boots/chukkas round here.

What? Don't hold back now. The three times on carpet thing has been repeated often enough but I've never seen the reasoning behind that explained and I've read extensively in this forum. Maybe I missed it or maybe it's common knowledge in your mind. I figured it had to do with your feet swelling at different times of the day or something. I felt if they fit, wear them, but others do it differently and now I know why, and as a toe-dragger I may rethink how I break in my next pair. So now I can wear my shoes "however I want" but with better information thanks to Vivalet's "idiotic" question.

Buy shoes. Wear them. See what happens.

Nobody told me what I posted. I used my own brain to come up with it. Seeing grown men ask for advice on how to break in a pair of shoes is retarded. I'm sorry you don't agree.

Some times the idiocy of this place is surprising.

I thought it was a reasonable question, but maybe I misread and you mean that the whole mac method thing is idiotic... which I guess is an opinion you are entitled to.

The French calf that many European makers use is much nicer.

From an Alden rep at a recent trunk show, the calf they use for brown shoes is from France, the stuff for black from Germany.

It's been asked, and asked, and asked in this same thread. A moments thought should clue anyone in on why it may or may not be a good idea. I probably came off a bit harsh.

Maybe next time we can talk about why wearing leather soled shoes in the rain might not be a good idea. There's also that thread in MC about the necessity of shoe trees.

Enough of this bickering, Tassels just posted their navy suede offerings. It's late December, which means its time to start planning the spring wardrobe

Alcibiades is, of course, correct but to some this could be considered signature-worthy stuff.

The blue suede tassels are excellent.
