Was going to buy the burnished tan perf captoe boot with my paycheck this week, but they've already sold out of the 8.5 sized boots. 9 month wait at least, once unionmade places it's order :-/ Are there any other stockists with a Barrie lasted burnished tan boot?

What type or maker of shoe brush do you use for your shoes.... I like the Alden but @ 32.00 a pop that is a lot... I like the tightness of the hair of the Alden becuase it is shorter than most, so I buy the 5.99 Allen Edmonds and Shave down the hair ( with a hair trimmer) to the same lenght at the Aldens... I fine this make them tight and has almost the same feel as well..... This shine is great too.

Where did you get these from and if you don't mind how much were they?

Ordered the same pair from Leffot, I keep refreshing my tracking link... Can't wait to get these shoes. bounce2.gif

Oh lord. Me too. My sizing misfires behind me, I think this will be truly the pair I get to break-in and own.

In other news, I can only hope my wife loves them enough to ignore the price tag...

With Alden, the only local store that carries the shoes is LSBH. All of my Aldens were bought online as the result of that.

Alden is sold through Brooks Brothers...

Here's what you have to look forward to !!

I would guess AE's overall output is significantly higher than Alden.

1) AE has 32 branded retail stores nationwide. Alden has two company owned retail stores (DC and SF) and a handful of independent stores that primarily sell Aldens (Alden NY, Alden of Carmel, sure i'm missing some). Alden also has the small B&M boutiques we all love, plus international boutiques.

2) AE is also sold at department stores like Macys, Nordstroms, etc. Outside of Barneys (which has only a few locations), I haven't seen Alden in department stores

3) AE is sold at a variety of online retailers like Zappos. Of course, Allen Edmonds has its own robust website while Alden does not.

4) AE has wider price points and a variety of styles. They range from casual offerings to business staple offerings like this http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF270_1_40000000001_-1. Most of their shoes are under $350, while comparable Aldens start at $100 more: http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens_straight_tip_bal_calfskin_black/pvc-ald-mxsdlc-907_ald_m_straight_tip_bal_calfskin.html. In addition, AE shoes frequently go on sale, which increases volume.

5) While Alden cordovan is sold at Brooks Brothers, AE calfskin is sold at Brooks Brothers as well. Based on the prices, I would guess AE sells as much or more volume through Brooks Brothers than Alden does.

6) While Alden is at J Crew, it is really only online and at a few select stores in big markets. The J Crew men's business in general is quite smaller than the women's business pretty much everywhere except for a few cities (NY, SF, BOS, the usual). Your average J Crew shopper nationally ins't a dude buying Alden Indys or chukkas, it is a woman who is buying close for herself; her boyfriend may be tagging along buying nice shirts and sweaters on sale.

Now Alden itself has claimed to be the biggest cordovan shoe manufacturer in the world, and this is probably right; they probably have a huge share of chromexcel shoes, suede shoes, etc. But these are all niche markets

The antique edge really makes this a great make-up.
