those Viberg boots are pretty loud, but not so far off from some of the Alden offerings on Arknets. Well I like them, but not nearly enough to go hunt down a pair.

Ultimate Indys are Kudu, right? Not a chromexcel leather, right? In both cases I would just put some neutral boot cream on after wiping with a damp cloth and go to town with a horsehair brush. I've never used polish on my brown chromexcel and it looks great. A neutral boot cream and elbow grease are really all you need to bring the color back and raise a shine. I have a completely different routine for shells. Depends on the shell, actually.

Yeah it's horrible. Hope stockists steer clear of the wedge in future make-ups.

Yeah I do all the time. A leather dressing like Montana Pitch-Blend or Pecard's will help waterproof them. Leffot has a useful video about this on their blog from 2009 IIRC.

Those are not at all the wedge soles I'm thinking of however close they are to the tugger boots which I actually like ... The soles I'm requesting are most likely modified , these would look good on natural chromexcel and would be really comfy..

Like this chukka from Leffot but a plain toe high boot on The Trubalance would be a nice beater boot

I've been holding out for my first pair of black Alden boots....want something that I can dress down a little to wear with jeans and chinos. My thought was that to this end, one or more of the following attributes would be in order: - something in a Scotch or Alpine grain as opposed to smooth shell or calf - antique or natural edgetrim rather than black....perhaps reverse welt - commando or crepe sole Have not seen a whole lot that fits the bill in the archives....there is the LSBH shell Pitt boot, but might be a bit too shiny...then there is this new LSW offering...what do people think of these? (They are intriguing to me but I have never worn a Plaza last so not sure how they'd look with jeans/chinos):

Anyone ever seen any other black grain boot makeups? I'd be all over black grain wingtip boots with antiqued edgetrim, reverse welt, commando soles...along the lines of these, but with the above grain:

The scotch grain on the plaza last which you Judy posted is half off the last two 11.5 sizes in stock ! Which would make your decision easier I bet but I would never pay full prize as that boot is a little too dressy due to the plaza toe , I too would love a nice black pair , I tried the black grant flex boot and they were even too dressy , I like jumpers and plain toe barries or trubalance ,
