Hey guys,

Are there any specific type of Alden's that you would recommend would could go with both a gray interview suit, as well as could be worn casually? Longwings? PTB? I'd like to pick up a pair of Alden's for my interview suit, but don't really have the cash to shell out for something that expensive if I can't get some additional use out of it.

First lets define versatile. To me, versatile means sleek enough to be worn with a slim gray or navy suit and also casual enough to be worn with some jeans or chinos. Automatically I eliminate Barrie last and a 360 degree welt. Style wise, I think a captoe is very versatile and the grant last is both casual and dressy. I prefer boots so I my choice would be the black sheel or #8 captoe boot on the grant last. http://www.theshoemart.com/alden-mens_cap_toe_boot_shell_cordovan_black_shell/pvc-ald-mxs-4065_ald_m_cap_toe_boot_shell_cordovan.html

The most important consideration, imo is the last and welt. Stay away from Barrie and 360 degree and youll more than likely find what you are looking for.

A calfskin boot may be just as nice. I just happen to have (had :/) shell cordovan. Point is flat welt, sleek last (Plaza, Grant, Aberdeen), and eyelets make for a very versatile boot

When you send your Alden's in for recrafting can you have them crafted to/on a different last?  (ie Trubalance to Barrie?)

Also - will Alden putt any sole type you request on the boot?  (ie put a sole on similar to the natural edge trim we see on many of the Leather Soul make ups?)

I agree, your boot looks great. It reminds me of a Trickers boot I own that I own and I love it

Beautiful shoe Uncle--just got a pair myself 2 weeks ago! Color 8 in that style is a great business shoe.

Wearing this boot right now from Alden on Madison. Super versatile. I bought these because the need for a black cap toe arose when I returned the AE Park Avenues back to Nordstrom for garbage leather. The boot works with a suit just as well as jeans, and the creasing is somewhat controlled compared to other models because of the design of the boot.
