Purchased my first pair of Alden's today. Wow...these are amazing!! Picked these up at Nomad. Already contemplating on going back and getting a black pair. Took them straight to Kaners (in Toronto) to get the soles protected.

Why would you get the sole protected? They look horrible.

If the sole wears out, just send them back to Alden to be resoled.

Call up Alden in Mass. One of the laces broke on a boot of mine, and they sent me a free pair right away. I just gave them the model number from the box so they could source the approriate lace.

Again, get in touch with Alden. This happened to me with two pairs. They were back in my hands in less than 2 weeks and good as new.

Has anyone had any experience with this? The fellow at Renner's said they'll probably look at it for a minute and make sure its a manufacturing error, repair it, and ship it right back. Anyone have any idea what the turnaround time for something like this typically is?

Same as above. If you don't mind paying the shipping just call them up and send them back yourself...may be faster. They prefer UPS as thats who they normally deal with.

I have found the people at Alden to be SO HELPFUL in term of answering questions, fixing problems. Google them and you'll find a Middleborough, Mass phone number for them.

Realistically speaking, I'd be fine either way, but since this one will definitely be on the Plaza last, I would probably prefer the blucher.

However, a boot version on the Grant, Barrie, or Trubalance last would be really cool, I'd get in on that if it ever came to be.

Thanks for the clarification guys. I guess my mind read what it wanted to see. Hopefully a shop makes them again and I get a chance to snag them that way, or someone is willing to let theirs go (10.5 on the Grant PLEASE!).

Sorry but everyone isn't blessed with near year-round dry weather and sun like you folks from southern California.

Yes I'm jealous of you and your damn sunshine!

Sweet shoes s3lam!

These look great and should age better. I would love a pair. I am not sure about the black but if I did I feel I would be more likely to get those as boots.

The topy looks fine. They are a casual shoe and I could see these with the commando sole but this looks better. I always get the top protector on my leather soled shoes.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I think those are great-looking shoes, and the soles aren't a problem. The uppers look like natural Chromexcel. Details?

^^ Very nice. Are these the PTBs from LS?

Nope, from Tres Bien Shop.

Was in NYC this weekend, went to Leffot, got the #8 chukka, my first cordovan piece of footwear. the leather on them feels and looks amazing. really excited to wear them and see what it does.

Steve sized me a size and a half smaller on the barrie last than I thought I'd be. The idea that my feet are that much smaller than I thought both shocks me and makes so much sense regarding shoe problems I have--I've just been buying shoes much too large.

yeah I remember going to an AE store a few years ago to get fitted on a Brannock for the first time in years, and just thinking my size was 9.5 or 10 for some odd reason. I was fitted for a Park Avenue in 8.5 E which left me dumbfounded.

It's a Chromexcelt PTB. If it were in brown, I would have picked one up...not a fan of that natural shade.

And beat up leather soles look good? I love leather soles, but after the first day, I hardly find them an attractive component of the shoe. And 6 to ? weeks for a resole. No thanks.

I also live in not so dry of a climate and have opted for the half sole as well, albeit a vibram version. Yours look great IMO.

Chapeau on a great purchase...
