sniped a pair of chukkas off ebay.. special run for shoe mart, nice unfortunately my dark brown suede chukkas are developing lining tears again and the patches are peeling off. I think these will have to be returned. I feel bad because they're almost a year old, but still.. Alden repaired and they are STILL messed up

what would be the worries I should have if buying used form ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

i was looking at those... It looks like the lining is worn through int he heal and could use some repairs. also how can you tell if it really is cordovan?

Welp, I chicken'd out on the Alden boots on my trip to NYC. Another problem with them was I could not a comfortable fit with my orthopedic inserts and the shell cordovan boots do not come in a size larger than 12.

Saw these on eBay - anyone know if/where they're available?

Custom plain-toe boots, I'm guessing. They look good.. esp without the speedhooks.
^Those are going to fit 1/2 size big right? 9.5D would fit a true 10?
^ I would guess so. All my Alden's I only went down 1/2 size, even in the Barrie last.

Yeah, the absence of speed hooks is definitely a selling point to me. I'd like to get a pair, but the closest I've found is at Alden of Carmel, but with a commando sole and speed hooks.

I think if a shoe has it's lining worn out, it is too used to buy, but that's just me. I don't think those are shell, but ask him to send you the info from the inside of the shoe, you can plug the model number into google to find out general information. Or just ask for a close up pic of the wrinkles, should be easy to see if they are calf or shell. Just be careful and ask all the questions you have, and ebay should not be a problem.

Hey guys,

After long last, our documentary video and photo gallery on Alden is live! My friend Tom and I visited them last June, and we were treated to a complete tour of the entire plant and shoemaking process. He shot the video, and I shot the stills. It was an awesome afternoon, and the Alden guys were very gracious to us. Hope that you guys like it! Be sure to watch the video full-screen - we uploaded it in HD.

Yikes, those are great. If I didn't already have black wingtip boots...
Those look amazing.. Someone should make shortwings in ravello shell and plain toe boots in the brown nubuck leather with a commando sole and no speedhooks.
